Yeah, it is quite nifty, you need to check it out up close when you are here next time, its very high quality and well done. I wish they would have just put limestone the whole way up! Honestly though, you actually can't tell very well where the limestone ends on this one unless you know it, so I think its well done. If you think about it, its kinda a waste to clad a whole building in limestone when no one can tell past the 6th or 7th floor like in this building.

You can very much tell when it splits. Lorn knows I'm not a fan of painted concrete.

And yes, the nifty part was the green lighitng and limetone.

That's why it might not be a horrible thing for the boom to have a little pause.
Get the architects out on the street and look around at what works and what doesn't.

Condo project planned near Trump Tower

In a bet that the downtown condominium market will emerge from its doldrums, a Chicago development firm plans a narrow, mid-rise building just north of Donald Trump’s 92-story hotel/condo tower along the Chicago River.

Belgravia Group Ltd. is considering a 15- to 17-story building, with about 50 condo units, above an existing parking garage at 405 N. Wabash Ave., sources say. Belgravia has a contract to buy the air rights above the garage, which has one level at street level and three floors below ground.

That's the 403 N. Wabash project, right? I googled the forum and pulled up the renders that were previously posted. Are these still valid, or did they have a redesign?

Nothing will be demolished. It's going to be built on the plaza of River Plaza.

405 obviously isn;t going anywhere, it's a big building. The most we could hope for is a reclad to bring it up to par with the prime location it sits.

Did you hear anything about what the change to hotel does to the parking requirements? The parking podium did look decent, but smaller is always better. Wouldn't it need fewer spaces now, as a lot of hotel guests use taxis?

But maybe not. The time share bit sounds like a stealth hotel-condo deal, or maybe a way to get the building built without pre-sales, then if the market gets going, sell off some of the units as condos one by one?
