It looks like they are about to put up a second tower crane at the Spring site. I drove by there yesterday and saw a bunch of red tower shaft peices and on the other side of the site they had other red crane pieces along the side near Lamar.

Legacy photos are great. Thanks for taking them. Was wondering what was going on there. However the contruction looks rather odd. I did not know they made prefabricated 31 story condos. That is a joke but it kinda looks like that.
I believe that is a originally french construction method called tunnelforming. Very cost effective for residential if you can work with the module (lots of wall, no columns per se) Also fast as the forms are stripped quickly and easily.
I have looked at it for vacation type condos and would have used it if the project had gone forward.
That's very interesting. The construction method used here seems different from the other buildings I've watched recently, and now that you've described tunnelforming, that certainly looks like what they're doing. Thanks for the info!
Also, did anyone stand infront of the 360 near the street level sign over the last year. Smile every 20 minutes or so it takes a picture. whell not that close but me and my two oldest children did just that when we visited. There we are July 4th at 3:26 pm. Kids got a kick out of that.
Refering to the picture of the window washers. The people who do that are a little crazy to us normal folks. However I met the man who washes the Lexington Financial Center windows here in lexington and one time he got caught in a storm somewhere around the 25th floor. He swang back and forth 350 feet above the ground untill the fire dept helped him back up to the 31st floor where he was safe. He said the whole ordeal was a blast and a rush. The 31st floor is really the 30th because the building does not have a 13th.

While I didn't get a picture of the crane while I was there today, it looks like it has been raised. I believe those new sections were probably for the existing crane.
Spring is a mystery to me, although I am looking forward to it rising high and adding to an already burgeoning skyline I often forget it will add a nice point tower affect in the west side of DT. There doesn't seem to be much discussion about this project, maybe when it gets up to a notable height we will start seeing more interest. I do think it will look great from the west and will obscure some of 360's bulkiness. Plus the green cladding should add contrast to those otherwise blueish mirrorlike buildings in that area.
On another note while driving past DT earlier I was again amazed at the lighting of the Frost tower. I think it may be one of the most appealing lighting designs I have ever seen, it is classic as well as modern. I have no idea why those blue/green glass panes on the crown as well as the piping on the corners look white when lit up, marvelous is the only word I can think of!

You may be right, I don't know why they would be raising the existing crane though because the building isn't even above ground level yet.

the residences website seems to work just fine for the Ausitn location. It looks like a PHP error of some sort. Certainly not a good sign for their web team, but I wouldnt read much into it yet.
i am so sick of the same two angles of downtown, both of which ironically make austin look blocky and sparse. these make the city look much more dense and i love it when the hill country is part of the picture.

Were you refering to not liking the warm weather of last week or the cold rain? Unless you are a snowbird Austin has wonderfull weather. The Altavida seems to be stuck on the 6th or 7th floor. Its upward progress seems slow. 360 seemed to move faster. If I am right the Legacy will pass it up before it gets to the 10th floor. When I come to visit in April I wonder what I will see. Austonian above ground? Spring on 7th floor? Altavida on 11th or so? And the Legacy on 14 or so? West Austin Residences a big hole almost to street level?
