Apartment tower next to W=A is 600' tall....so I hear....so basically half the height of W=A....but in keeping with scale of other projects in area.

Solar's general views are much better than I got ( I just can't control the sun the way he can ).

Collar for pouring floors around round columns - Seal around the bottom of the forms (?) I think they are sitting upside down in this shot.

Great view - I worked in Unitrin ( directly N, left side of this shot) for a year, the view of Jewelers was a treat, the detal looks great even from the 14th floor, never got tired of it. ( even better than Marina towers ).

Yes - exactly. I don't want rampant land price inflation - one of Chicago's strengths and competitive advantages (ie helping skyscraper construction grow at a greater rate in recent years than) against prime competition - NY, SF, Boston, etc, is that real estate is much less expensive. We do not need misfits like Fioretti thinking his role is to somehow inflate market prices by intentionally slowing down the natural pace of development....again - Fioretti = danger ahead for South Loop development...

I think you guys are being WAY too hard on Fioretti and Reilly.

Fioretti committed the big blunder of the year with X/O, that's for sure. But I so far have been given no reason to believe that he is going to oppose highrises left and right. He seems to be pretty supportive of the 2 tall ones planned for Grant Park's south wall. Lets just see.

Reilly has 1) opposed demolition of the Lakeshore Athletic Club--good, 2) opposed the Children's Museum in Grant Park--a matter of opinion, but not necessarily unreasonable, and 3) asked for 1100 parking spots for the Children's Hospital--not sure about that one. All in all, I'm not seeing where people are getting the idea that he's a big obstructionist..

Again, we'll see..

Reilly also opposes the zoning change for the (13 story?) boutique hotel on the Esquire Theater site. But I am glad that he seems to support preserving the Lakeshore Athletic Club.

I don't think either of them will be blocking skyscrapers for which there is only minimal NIMBYism (you could probably throw Grant Parks III and IV into this category). However, I truly believe they're both big-time panderers, who will overwhelmingly side with the NIMBYs on developments with modest opposition levels and above. I don't see either one as being leaders with ability to take postions on issues based on merit and benefit for the city. Rather I see them both pretty much as hand-counters...
