The press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Covey Center for the Arts, 425 W. Center.

Orlando,

we've been discussing it in the Provo development thread.

Our guess is some kind of downtown mixed-use project... CCC or Gateway-esque.... but obviously on a smaller scale.

I still dont understand why Provo/Orem are not part of the Salt Lake/ Ogden metro. It is just one big Metro.

It will be, if not this coming 2010 census, then the next... It has to do with continuous urban "blocks" of development and people traveling from one metro into another (i.e. people living in Utah county traveling into SL County for work, shopping etc.)

With the current growth explosion in southern SL County and northern Utah County, its just a matter of time before both metros meet that requirement to be consolidated.

Are you sure bud, because look at Ogden, which use to be officially part of the Salt Lake metro team. They went and made Ogden/Clearfield its own metro, and put Tooele/Salt Lake/Summit together as the new Salt Lake Metro.

Tooele/Salt Lake/Summit as the same metro? That just doesn't seem right. It should be Ogden/Salt Lake/Provo as one. Tooele is way out on it's own.

They do metros based on a minimum core city population base and the surrounding conjoined counties fall into the MSA apparently Provo/Orem is a large enough base to be it's own and I'm guessing that Juab county is included in that MSA. The same must be true for Ogden/Clearfield.

Here's an interesting one. Kanab is in the Flagstaff MSA because it is the neighboring county. So they don't always make sense, they apparently don't look at minor barriers such as mile deep canyons in the ground.

Tooele makes sense as part of SL MSA. While Ogden and Provo would be nice to have in the MSA I like the fact that we have big enough cities to have five MSA's in the state. Although four of the five are within a two hour drive.

Again, it has to do with people commuting from one area to another. I would imagine that half of the people in Tooele and Park City drive the 20 or so minutes down into the Salt Lake Valley for work. For that reason, they are an integral part of the metro.

I guess the more metros the better. Today I realize that 13th south is the best street to live close to. I-15 starts to slow down due to traffic south bound, right after 13th and as well north bound.

Is the Urban Chocolate illustrated above an actual rendering? And if on Main, do we know what south? I like the looks of that.

Latest Stat's in for Utah/July 2006 - July 2007

Utah adds 10 people per hour / Much of the year's record growth was in Utah and S.L. counties

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695228186,00.html

Much of that growth was in Utah County and Salt Lake County, which both surpassed population benchmarks. Utah County's population now totals more trhan 500,000 and Salt Lake County's is more than 1 million.

Class A job: Salt Lake's new walker Center just like old - except better

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695228092,00.html

Walker Center returns to its roots

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_7477203

American West Bancorporation

Bob Daugherty, president and CEO of Far West Bank, speaks at the opening of a branch in the Walker Center

Randall Gaston, senior vice president of commercial banking for Far West Bank, shows the original 1912 vault, including its 5,000-pound door, on Thursday, (Laura Seitz, Deseret Morning News)

When it was originally built, the Walker Center had just one bathroom on each floor - all men's rooms, of course, as usually only men worked outsied the home in 1911.

Somehow I got the idea they were going to return the tower to the top of the Walker Center. It isn't shown in the picture.
