I'm with Nowhereman. 340 is particulary interesting.

I was inside 340 close to its completion. It is a beautiful building - as has been noted, it looks nicer than its rendering. The coolest thing about it probably is that it is the first green residential tower in Chicago not because it was thought that that would improve marketability (because when it was being designed green-ness wasn't particularly marketable) but because the developer viewed it as the responsible way to build in these modern times. From what I could see, they lived up to their responsibility for doing things in a quality way throughout, not only in that aspect.

The rest of Lakeshore East I know less about. But none of those highrises make me puke the way some of the worst recent stuff in River North or the South Loop does. Until 340 and Aqua, though, it's true, none of Lakeshore East really stands out, either.

That's a lot of progress on the podium, and good to see the tower rising too.

BVic, how'd you get into 340? Do you have a "pass to Chicago's coolest places" card or something?

Any 340 pics?

My card isn't as cool as BVics, I'm not getting my tour of the building until next week

I did get a tour of Spertus back in August that was pretty cool, there will be some very cool spaces in that building when it is finally open. (At the end of the month)

Aqua is looking great, and its doing a lot to fill in the 'sinkhole' of LSE park. I sure hope the grand plan will integrate this sunken area nicely. The townhomes and retail surrounding the park were a great idea. I remember feeling stuck down there long ago, before the current boom, with few easy exits. I got a touch of claustrophobia in this area.
Will the rumored "Aqua 2" or whatever eventually goes up on the south plot be able to share the extensive ground level features planned for Aqua? The walking trail, pool, grilling area, private park, etc? It seems big enough to handle both towers, and the south plot does not have room for a similar ground level feature.

Aqua two is outside of the podium space.

And that claustrophobia will only be increased when the plan is finished. You'll be sitting in a 700' hole.

Oh nice, it looks like you will be able to see it through that crack from Michigan Ave. quite well. At least this is one angle we will be able to enjoy Aqua from without it being blocked anytime soon.

Let's see, the Hyatt on the river is 365 and 347, the brown turn between Aqua and the river is 350, Columbus Plaza (the brown-yellow commieblock on the left in Harry's first Sunday pic) is 468... so Aqua will be clearly visible from Mich... can't wait.

Looking at the latest pic, those formwork supports on the N side are tall! And it seems that the blue flooring formwork extends outward on the E and N sides. Could this already be it? Especially when Aqua's first two floors above upper Columbus are double height...

Wavy-balconies should start in the next few weeks huh? It looks as if they should begin, albeit slightly, the unduations on the next floorplate after the current one is poured...
