This resort isn't slated for Midway, it is slated for Daniels canyon which is east of Heber on the way to Strawberry. Second, it's Swiss style houses, not Scandinavian. As a Scandinavian myself, I find it my duty to correct the Swiss=Swedish myth.

I wonder when the Metro Park West project is going to get under way. The progress photos have shown the same parking lot for weeks.

Also on Downtown Rising they're showing an enormous apartment complex around 10th South and Main. This looks like it's truly targetted at low-income people, with 1-, 2-, and 3-room apartments. It's also two or three blocks from the 9th South TRAX station. This is what this city needs, along with several more just like it.

The Road Home has recently purchased the property located at 999 S. Main Street. This development will have approximately 201 studio, 1 & 2 bedroom affordable apartments for families and individuals emerging from homelessness.

Each apartment will be fully furnished as well as have individual kitchens and bathrooms. Laundry facilities and community spaces will be located throughout the building. The current design plans also include commercial and restaurant space which will be available to rent.

Supportive services will be available on-site to assist tenants in retaining their housing. The Road Home is excited to be able to provide more affordable housing options for single men and women as well as families in our community in the fall of 2008.

I really like that the Road Home is doing this, I always thought that was a bad location for a hotel. I think the location for the Road Home will be great, its still in downtown, it's close to transportation yet it's away from the shelters and may help to provide a positive new start for those in transition.

Plus Holiday Inn no longer has a location in downtown, maybe they can invest in a new facility somewhere in the CBD. A nice new Holliday INN would be a nice addition to the city.

Yeah, this development is great for Downtown and the community. I just wish developers these days would stop recessing new buildings so far back, away from the street and sidewalk. Oh wait, there is no sidewalk in the rendering Wouldn't it be nice if they could take off that ugly driveway covering and move it around to a back or side entrance, then move the building right up against the street and sidewalk, with a mid-block cross walk leading right up or near the front entrance, and a driveway leading to a covered back or side entrance, and parking. Do any of you agree?

This isn't a new building. The developers are converting the former Holliday Inn that occupied that space, thus why it is set back.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is not actually new construction but a rehab of an old motel, so the setback from the street is already a given.

The lack of a sidewalk is just the result of a crappy rendering. There is already a sidewalk in front of the current site, and I wouldn't imagine that they would remove it. Here is the site, currently occupied by a former motel:

Costly Cottonwood Mall plan source of hope, angst

This article confused me more than anything else.
It certainly seems like a tanged web of funding and taxes going into this project.
Can anyone explain to me why taxes are paying for this and for what percentage of the cost? Is is just for infrastructure? Why is the school board voting on this issue anyway?

Dueling-pianos nightclub to open in downtown Salt Lake City

A new nightclub is scheduled to open next month providing a new entertainment venue in Salt Lake City's downtown.

Keys on Main, to be located at 242 S. Main, is anticipating a mid-December opening, contingent on receiving private club license approval from the state's Alcohol and Beverage Commission.

"It'll be a dueling piano bar," said George (Kelly) Hasenohrl, owner and entertainer of the new club. "It's in a great location downtown for a nightclub, with the TRAX stop right there that can drop people off right in front of our front door."

The location, which was previously a men's clothing store, has been vacant for several years.

The 8,000 square foot nightclub will feature two pianos, custom built for Keys on Main. The dueling pianos will be the focus of the nightclub. It will seat 200 guests on the main floor with additional guests in an standing-room only area that will be elevated so they will be able to enjoy the entertainment with unimpeded views.

That is a great find Viper. That will definately help Main Street.

and give competition to Tavernacle on broadway and 2nd east I think. It's also a dueling piano bar. I wonder if there is the market for two of these to exist or if one of them will go out of buisness soon. I had a great time the one time I went to Tavernacle but it was the kind of night one can only have on occasion, so I haven't been back yet. I'll try to check out the new place when it opens.

Yes that will give some competition to the Tavernacle. I hope they can both survive. I've been to the Tavernacle a couple of times and I really like the place.

I like that people are wiling to invest in Main Street businesses. I just wonder if it's a little to early though. Will there be enough people on Main Street to meet there attendance needs, or will it take a few years until some housing is complete. It will definitely benefit from events at The Gallivan Center though, so here's to hoping it will make it, and that the Tavernacle will stay in business also.

Keys on Main. I love the name and I really love the location. To have a new nightclub right on Main will really give Main Street more of a nightlife feel. I am really starting to like that part of Main Street. ( between 200 S. and 300 S..) and with the 222 South Main project with ground level retail will only make that part of Main even better. I just wish the city can get going on some projects a block North. That part of Main REALLY needs help.

I heard that there was a groundbreaking for a 11story hotel in Sandy next to the new stadium. I also heard a bunch of other projects going on next o the convention center down there and around the trax stations. Does anybody have info on that stuff? I don't like Tom Dolan very much either, but I am very curious as to what's going on down there in Sandy or anywhere else in the valley.

Projects keeps a close eye on that area, but if you go back a few pages there's quite a few posts regarding the area in Sandy around 106th south. Right now of course there is the new Stadium. Also State Street is undergoing a major upgrade and expansion. There are so many office buildings,commercial and retail projects going up right now from 106th to 90th that I've lost track any more. It's amazing to see as you pass it by on I-15

Was this today? I don't know anything about there being a 11-story Hotel. But I did know that RSL was planning on building a hotel next to the new stadium. I'm going to look into this. Hope it's true. I would love to see more taller buildings in Sandy other then that 10-story building at the Jordan Commons. LOL
