Could you guys all e-mail the "committee to Stop the Andrew" picking apart their arguements. This is one building I don't want to see lost, I know it looks like it is in trouble, but even if the financing fails, I don't want these NIMBYs to feel like they won and to get cocky. I just sent them a rather scathing letter telling them that they have no authority to say that urban planners don't know what they are talking about and questioning their motives for being against this building seeing as how their address is the statesman and their views would be compromised by this building.

Hotel Palomar. Its status needs to be updated on the first page since it's still listed as in site prep.

The building is right by my place and I know that they are still working on it.
The only question I have is about what type of highrise crain they're using.
I can see the crane from my window - it definitely does not look like your normal construction crane. It looks pretty tiny and it also looks like its folded up. Other than that, I have no idea.

I doubt it. Last I heard, this was going to become a small parking lot. Whoever is going to operate the lot does not want their customers to park underneath such an disfigured wall.

The man on the scaffold, I'm sure, is a mason who is preparing the wall for refinishing, removing the extra bits of old brick, steel, plaster/lath, and drywall. After that, there will either be 1) sandblasting then repointing or 2) repointing then painting. I'm guessing it will be the latter, since paint is cheaper than sandblasting, and also since it looks like the mason has already started the repointing (he's holding a giant caulk gun full of mortar).

I doubt that this is site prep for a new project, because if it was, the property owner wouldn't spend nearly so much money refinishing the brick wall. Compare it to the similar exposed brick walls at theWit and 155 North Wacker, where the construction teams are basically ignoring them, since they will be covered up by the new building.

Steely,

The New City project is now in Site Prep/Demo. Half of the New City YMCA is now demolished. The develoment team is looking to begin construction on the entire project in 2008.

Though why would they have the right to paint somebody else's wall? Maybe Village Green is tidying up their own wall since that building eventually will be remarketed as residential. Or maybe (as you suggest) they're worried enough about their parking patrons that they were able to persuade, by footing part of the bill, Village Green to undertake the repainting.

Unless of course the remnants of the old building that are still stuck to the 188 W Randolph wall are legally the property of the parking lot owners. Any real estate lawyers know how this is usually handled?

^ I am fairly certain that the arrangement with the city to restore the Randolph Tower also included these properties to the east. So, Village Green would be in control of all three parcels at the moment.

Speaking on this, I was wondering if anyone here was planning to attend? I was initially, but then found out about another meeting for 150 E. Ontario that I'd like to attend. I don't think that I will be able to make both, and I was hoping that a few of you all were going to go.

Also, the side for Museum Park Place South is now in site prep. I went past there the other day, and noticed settlement marks, and it looks as if potholing were occuring as well.

No its a completely seperate project. The developer here is waiting on this site and got approval to demolish the 3 buildings and use the site in tandem as parking. They are supposed to come back with a solid proposal within two years. The city will take back the lot if no progress is made after two years have passed.

Is that still alive? I was starting to lose hope. It's always been one of my favorites because that's the type of infil this town needs a lot more of, imo.
