[QUOTE=Helladog;3153153]Well, almost eight years later, and we still have the Hollywoodsy sign at Fort Howe introducing what any reasonably intelligent person already knows. QUOTE]

LOL.....yes, i agree.....at least the stating-the-obvious sinage you speak of did not lead to a string of other such signs (for example, a "BRIDGE" sign on the side of the Harbour Bridge, or a buoyant "HARBOUR" sign just off of Market Slip)

Just wait for April Fools Day when someone sneaks next to the lights and modifies one of them to show the Batman signal.

Hey man We dont come on your thread and bash you for your conversation's, what we discuss is what we discuss if you wouldn't like to put out something constructive then don't. Obviously to us we see it as a big deal I could see the lights from havelock st on the west side tonight and these lights as no big deal to you attract retail and potential buyers to us in our fastest growing commercial property. So yes its a big deal.

I'm sure it sounds silly, but I don't suppose you could snap a pic of the finished Leinster Street building? I used to walk past the construction site every day, but I left town before it was done and I'd like to get an idea of what the finished product looks like (assuming it is actually completed now, maybe it isn't lol)

no problem i could throw a rock and hit from my house, i live on princess and can see it from my apartment.

And the building is done, just adding some finishing touches. they have dumped a bunch of fill and are working on the landscaping its coming along nicely.

The bestwestern is alos getting a stone exterior and not some shitty siding that you would see on most.

Maybe these lights are what makes East Point "unique in Atlantic Canada". Northrup is impressing me less and less. It's a nice development, but it's your standard power centre (before these spotlights, that is). And if you can see them from the west side, they're too powerful and a waste. At least you don't see Halifax's from the middle of Dartmouth and vice-versa.

Question: where is the new offramp of Hwy 1 conneting to? If it's in the area I'm assuming it to be, tourists coming off the new hwy1 offramp will likely pass McAllister and Smart Centres first, and if they do get to East Point, they'll likely think "giant spotlights for Home Depot, Starbucks, and Indigo? Why?" I know I wouldn't want to stay at either of the hotels because of those lights either, even if they are only on until 10. Travellers often like to "turn in early" for at least one night they're in town, especially if travelling by plane. The "Saint John" sign was bright enough when I was staying at Ft. Howe in a room facing the hill, I couldn't imagine a set of giant spotlights being next door.

For some it might attract them, but for me, it detracts from the site (I'd say the same thing if it was Dartmouth Crossing, Corbett Centre, Spar Rd Power Centre, Two Nations Crossing Smart Centre...etc).

Definitely some photos and details in a single or pair of posts would be beneficial to the thread. I'd throw in some photos of my own, but they're already out of date by several months.

Can't wait.

I think I'm going to make it my New Year's resolution to stop complaining about the East Side. I've been really rough on it this year, and maybe it isn't deserved. While some of us may have doubts about the development out there, it is hard to argue with the fact that Saint John has been experiencing a construction boom, which should be welcomed by all of us, considering how slow things have moved in the city during recent memory.

Irving Oil has its eye on waterfront development
Renewel Company has been encouraged to build on the harbourside
Sandra Davis
Telegraph-Journal
Published Saturday November 10th, 2007
Appeared on page B3
SAINT JOHN - Irving Oil is considering building offices on the city's waterfront.

"We're no longer looking East," confirms company spokeswoman Jennifer Parker.

"We're very excited about what's happening in the uptown and seeing Saint John revitalized. We very much want to be part of that, if we can," she said.

The company has offices spread all over the city, including the Golden Ball, Brunswick Square and Loch Lomond Mall.

Irving Oil has been encouraged to build harbour-side by a number of groups, including the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership.

Parker was unable to provide detail about the scale of a development or when it might take place.

"We do have a real need for further space," she said.

Meanwhile, the Saint John Port Authority continues to look at a number of marine options for Long Wharf, says Stephen Campbell, chairman of the board.

"Long Wharf is our best facility. It's our most modern and serviced by rail, " he said, dismissing suggestions that the Port Authority is considering swapping Long Wharf with the city for the former Lantic Sugar property.

He did say there are "a number of parties talking to us right now" about uses for Long Wharf, marine and otherwise.

The Lantic Sugar site is "inferior" to Long Wharf, he said.

"It does not have wharf pier. We're not talking about equivalent properties by a long stretch."

Besides, the port actively uses Long Wharf and has recently invested in it.

"Long wharf is essentially our second cruise terminal," said Campbell.

"We're anticipating a record cruise season next year with as many as 20 ships tying up to Long Wharf simply because the Pugsley facility will be occupied as well."

Meanwhile, the Saint John Port Authority has made a request for proposals to develop a portion of the Pugsley Terminal waterfront property.

The area, known as Pugsley Park, is located on the east side of the harbour.

Proposals should enhance maritime and tourism activities, says port authority spokesman Bill Eaton, and be in keeping with the adjacent marine cruise terminal.

The photo that went with the article above seems to indicate that IOL is looking at the Coast Guard site. I wonder if they will be more aggressive than Hardman and pay what the feds want to get the site.

Good point.

Though I think it is likely not even worth entertaining the thought, I do wonder what would happen if Hardman and Irving partnered on the Coast Guard Development site....

That would be amazing for the city, but I don't see either one wanting to partner with the other. A high-profile collaboration on the Coast Guard site would mean a ton of money for the development, and would probably decrease the time frame on completion. I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

Anybody know if Montanas is going to be officially part of Eastpoint Shopping?
The steel frame is all up, and is on track to being completed soon. Yet, on their site www.eastpointshopping.ca Theres no mention of it. but clearly its opening there.
They are hiring now. As seen on the monster.com site http://hae.monster.fi/getjob.asp?JobID=6...5%3A00&Logo=0&pg=5&brd=1&cy=CA&aj=Canada
