It's been so long since I've really looked at those that block that I couldn't exactly remember what was there. I wouldn't propose removing anything historical. I do like the idea of a set back that would match the character of the block. Maybe a 4-5 story residential or office space set back and above the gallery.

As for the smaller portion, again I couldn't quite recall how high up the bare walls went on the Commercial and New Grand. I would propose a nice building that maximizes the height of the bare walls.

I'll have to refresh my memory of the block when I'm in town in December. Then maybe I'll start brainstorming some ideas. That project will have to be put on my list, althought I'm not sure if it will go 2 or 3 on the list yet. I guess I'll have to see how project number 1 goes first.[/QUOTE]

The great news is Future Mayor that once you see the exterior design of the Gallery Strip you will realize that some really cool things could be built above it. The Style of the Gallery lends itself to some excellant possibilities that would fit right in with some of todays niftier urban projects. Take a look at the rendering of the new Broadway Lofts and you will have a good idea of the Gallery feel.

I'm wondering if one of our roving photographers, who's downtown often could take some pic of that exchange place avenue?

The Gallery at Exchange Place, and also fronting 400 south has this same feel to it.

Yes some photo of that block would be great. I'm sure one of our fellow forumers wouldn't find it to taxing to take a lunch break out of the office and get some pictures of the gallery strip as well as the small parcel with the walls of the Commercial and New Grand included.

If not I'll go drive around when I'm in town and start processing some projects in this wacky brain of mine.

Now that we know our next Mayor I say we support him and make Salt Lake and even better place than it already is. Let's keep Becker in for three terms and then I can succeed him in 2019!

Okay,
The mystery tower is roughly a 35 story all glass twisting office tower on the south-east corner of 1st south and main street. From what I understand, it was not presented last October at the CCC unveiling because it could have affected the Hamilton Partners ability to lease tenants for its proposed tower. I have also heard rumors that the height has varied to be as much as 40 stories at one time. I'm sure it will go through a lot of changes depending on the market before it is officially unveiled. The LDS church did buy the properties on that corner back in 2006. I like those buildings and I think it would have been better for the city to have the building built on the south west corner of that intersection where it is mostly parking, except for the the old & small zions bank building(which they could relocate close by. Anyways, there you have it.

Now, back to my original question: does anybody know what the status is of the new intermodal hub. Have they begun the expansion of the other half yet?

BTW, if anyone is wondering this is not the tower that I was mentioning earlier that my uncle says he has seen the plans to.

This was an old post, but I have this has been a concern of mine also for a very long time. It's embarrassing. This is the entrance/gateway for most people coming into Salt Lake City from the airport or from I-15. The city & county should invest into making this a nice tree-lined boulevard.

orlando, I agree about 600 south.

Have you checked out the www.downtownrising.com site. it lays out a vision for the downtown salt lake area. And in that vision they want 500 and 600 south to become beautiful beulavards.

Those are the renderings to the radi8 condos, not the Vantage Tower.

I have no idea where the Vantage Tower was planned to go. But that project got canceled.

I havent heard a whole lot on the Intermodal hub. The engineering firm I work for did an "As-built survey" on the lot last year. Basically we went out and verified what was built on site. I havent heard anything other than that.

In regards to the Intermodal Hub. I have heard that UTA isn't sure yet what they want to put in the building to the north of the Hub. They are talking about a bike storage area with showers. They have also talked about putting several small shops in the building (local stuff)

On another note. I have also heard that there are meetings going on a permanent farmers market and some kind of Cultural Market. It sounds really interesting like it would be some kind of bazaar.
