Hmmm... cost too high to get a crane here? That seems kind of odd, I wonder how much extra we are talking here? I am by no means a crane expert, but to scale back a project because a crane had to be shipped seems strange. On another note, I heard that the KG has structural issues, which they are fixing. Nothing big, just a slight delay.

The lack of actual photos or even renderings of their previous work despite a biography speaking of their long history is a little strange and perhaps worrying. There is one photo of a small teepee like structure and the inside of some sort of dome, but no captions, so it isn't even clear if these are their work.

I dont know what i am getting but he is pretty famous i guess, possibly he is with the group but he is not in the website so i doubt he is. one possiblity is that they hired him to help with regina project. But that means that they also did part of it. and it also means they could hire another well know Architect for the project
also i think it would be neat if they did make it like the part above but it is just my opinion

it tells about the development that recently was in the news paper and rough sketchs. i bet it wont look like that but will have the same type of layout

Cardinal was hired seperately. He doesn't work for the above firm. Plenty of times they hire a well known architect to work along side a local company.

That was also the case with the RCMP Heritage Centre, where they hired Arthur Erickson to work with P3 Architects.

Well, at least if Cardinal does it, you won't need a rendering to know what the final product will be, since all of his buildings are essentially the same design

I think he designed a Native American museum in Washington DC as well, and you guessed it, its very curvy!

Don't get me wrong, I think his work is beautiful, but he really should try different things

i care about the environment and all, but those pencil renderings arent that good, i wont make a decision until i can see something concrete but...not lookin to good so far.

I have heard the name before but was a little surprised not to find a portfolio of their designs on the website and was hoping someone could shed some light on their work.

This certainly sounds positive but personally I would like to see some of these buildings. Perhaps the website is not up to date at this time.

In any case its another exciting project for Saskatoon.

I think it would be a reach to call Rajani Blaser Mannix an award winning firm ... Kindrachuk Agrey, AODBT, Friggstad seem to fo the better projects in town in terms of local firms. Rajani Blaser Mannix did the lovely addition to the Hugh Cairns Armoury on Idylwyld. after seeing that, I'm guessing Douglas Cardinal did the majority of the heavy lifting on the aboriginal centre.

The EcoVillage sounds great but looks awful. The sketch scares me. It looks like a crappy condo project in the burbs.

The main reason I am writing as next week is Design Week here in the Saskatoon. Speakers and events may be of interest to forum visitors.

Cardinals work I was familiar with. Its funny I thought about calling Rajani Blaser & Mannix but it seems it would be easier to call the prime minster. Architects seem to be on a higher plane for some reason.

So, the Sask party has formed a majority government. im not sure how to feel about this. hopefully it sparks more business in the province, but i have no idea. the environment didnt seem to be a big issue on brad walls mind though. which bothers me, a lot.

Well, the S-P has a quick summary today of their promises made during the campaign, which includes the following:

Increase funding to the government's Green Initiatives Fund by $40 million. Provide low-interest loans up to $25,000 for homeowners, schools, hospitals and businesses to install geothermal heating, solar power and wind generation equipment.


I think they also intend to establish tax credits for people who buy hybrid vehicles, although I can't find anything on that. $25K doesn't seem big enough to benefit anybody except homeowners, but one thing I'm especially interested in is passive solar water heating - black panels on my roof that heat incoming water with heat from the sun, before it goes into my water heater. After phoning around, I expect it's probably a $4000-6000 touch.


As far as a Sask Party government, I'm okay with it, and I expect the NDP opposition will keep them on their toes. Looking forward to the future.

nice video, sunday evening, i am hopefully gonna try to take a couple photos tommorrow and i want a unique panoramic shot. does anyone have any ideas i dont want the usual across river scene. i am thinking mabey on the hotel senator balcony giving a 180o view of 21 street east if they let me. can anyone else give an idea

Unique: I've always dreamed about going to the top of the Robin Hood..errrr...Horizon flour mill on 33rd street, it's one of the tallest structures in Saskatoon and would provide an interesting perspective....

Dangerous and difficult: Climb a tree or telephone/light post anywhere (on my list of things to do)

21st street would be a great shot, Midtown -> Bessborough

Evening eh, so a little dark? trickiness

I've done panoramic shots once before and it was frustrating connecting the dots (no tripod )

My photo adventures have been cut back drastically as of late, but if I do find some time in the near future I hope to capture and share some pano's.
