Hey all - I just got wind of some Downtown Rising details, what a cool process! You all in SLC are lucky to have that kind of support and $$ going towards something of that magnitude. I look forward to watching the progress.

I dont see SLCers talking about this initiative much here though - granted I dont check the SLC threads a lot, but thats just my impression.

What are your thoughts about the Downtown Rising redevelopment?

Hi everyone. I recently dicovered the forum on skyscraperpage.com, and I've skimmed through all of the pages on this thread. It amazes me to see all of the information that has been compiled. Pretty cool. I'm a former resident to slc, and so I am very curious as to what is new and developing.

So, I'm curious if anyone knows when the new downtown courthouse will begin and end construction. ???

To answer your question Orlando I'm not exactly sure, but I'm sure you've noticed that we all hope it doesn't start until sometime after they decide the save the Shubrick and decide to redesign the Brog Cube that is currently slated.

I think the project will start around 2009 or 2010. Still a few years away.

Welcome to this forum. If you are more interested in the downtown rising and specifically the city creek center, you should check out the thread for the city creek center. That is where we have all of the updates for that development.

Just tried to go to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch today and at 1:30 the wait was only 2 1/2 hours. Needless to say I will have to try again.

Were you there too, LOL. I was in the area so I stopped by just to check it out and pick up some cheesecake. WOW, what a madhouse!!! There must have been hundreds there. After reading what Jedi said about it being an awkward lean-to, I didn't expect it to be such a large free-standing building. I guess Jedi was being a bit sarcastic, LOL. I talked with one of the managers for a minute and he told me it won't be long before they open a second location. I'm thinking it might be at the University Mall in Provo/Orem, because both CCC and Cottonwood and Thanksgiving Point won't be ready for another 3-4 years.

What would you call that style on the inside? Kind of Disney World meets Babylon or ancient Egypt.

Hows the weather down there, O sister city to the south? Unusually mild up here. I cant wait to get some slope time down there Ive been lucky enough to ski at over 100 resorts all over the West, NE, and Canada, as well as extensively in the Alps... and Ive got to say, Utah consistently has the best snow in the world.

Didnt there used to be a resorts thread here? Did it get eatin up by SSP's MASSIVE two page thread list?

We use to have a resorts thread for all the developments going on, especially in Park City. I guess I could dig it up out of the SSP mothballs. Lately though we've just been putting resort's development news in to the SLC development thread, since they're all pretty much a part of the metro. We've pretty much begun to think of places like Park City,Snowbird,etc. as another city/town within the greater Wasatch.

That sums it up perfectly. I love the decor in all of them. It is always very classy and the food prices aren't too bad except for the slices of cheesecake. They are usually around $5 - $6 a piece. Can't wait to get in. I am going to try again in a couple of weeks.

I made an update to the projects list on page 1 of this thread. They now have addresses for the projects. Also, I added number of residential units to some of the condominium developments. I will continue to add to it, and update it. Feel free to check in often.

BTW, did you guys know that we have 4,000+/- residential units planned or underconstruction in the Downtown area at the moment.

Viper that is an impressive list, thanks for the update. You have no idea what a benefit that list will be for me on a final project I am working on in my development class this semester.

The number of housing units in the city is IMPRESSIVE to say the least, 4000+ units is amazing. Imagine if occupancy was simply 1.5 per unit. That is 6,000 new residence in or near downtown. That could be a real catalyst in pushing the city to a new level of greatness.

I can't wait for all the new cranes in the sky next year. It will be a great welcome home for me. That's so nice of all those developers to do, just for Future Mayor.

It wouldn't surprise me if we heard an announcement from Cowboy Partners just after the first of the year. I am basing that on absolutely nothing except what would make sense in my head. It seams like once construction begins on CCC that it would be a good time to announce that part of the project.

And as for those 4000+ units being built, now I have to decide where to buy when I move back. Now that's a tough decision.

I went downtown today and took some pictures of random things and developments.

I haven't posted images before so hopefully it works.

This is 222 south main. There are some pipes in the ground but thats about it besides the hole.

More of the hole.

The Wells Fargo building. I love it, mostly because of the shape and color.

The courthouse, and I am very happy that they aren't knocking it down

I Guess these are some new condos being built

The new loft addition, I don't think its done yet though.
