Absolutely! Until now, I had never realized the new AMD campus is visible from my vantage point. The lighting is perfect at the 8 o'clock hour, mornings. You can almost make out the ACC sign at the top of the Pinnacle (actually you can, if I crop the original pic).

I like the street-level part of it, it looks like a fresher alternative to our spiky-haired city hall design. The tower itself - I would have to see more detailed drawings, because right now it looks dangerously the Nicky Hilton to Paris Hilton Convention Center Hotel, if you know what I mean...

It is different from the one in Dallas and the proposed one in Houston, so it is a unique design to Austin.
I, too, like the W. Fancy tops can be a little overdone sometimes. I think the lines of the W are clean and take on a mid-century modern look. In fact, it kind of reminds me a little of the Lever Building in New York, built in the early 50's. Though that building is considerably shorter with only 21 stories, I see a striking similarity to the design:
i drove by the W office, and they had a model up, and it didn't look too bad. They can do some cool things with the glass, so we will see. Austonian is also coming along also. They are both pretty close each other

Thanks. I made it public in hopes that NIMBYs and everyone else could Google "Austin highrises" or the like and find it and be informed! I hear so many people talking about some of the new highrise projects and they have no idea what they're talking about. I'm not bashing them, or blaming them, I'm just saying that they haven't had a chance to find out the facts. Not everyone knows what Emporis is, but Google might as well be a household name now days.

The new 300-unit apartment project is Simmons Vedder's second at Mueller, following last summer's announcement of the 441-unit Mosaic already under construction. The unnamed project will go up just north of the Mosaic site and adjacent to Mueller's future Town Center. Construction should start next summer with completion in 2010.
The four-story building will feature ground floor commercial space, two-story live-work units and standard apartment amenities.
Under the affordability guidelines outlined by Mueller, about 10 percent of the apartments will be reserved for families making 60 percent or less of Austin's median family income. The project will also seek a rating under Austin Energy's Green Building Program.
"We chose Simmons Vedder to build the next apartments at Mueller because they have proven themselves to be collaborative in their approach, thoughtful in their design and committed to the goals of the entire Mueller community," says Matt Whelan, senior vice president of Catellus, the master developer of Mueller. "Well-designed, high-density residential options like this one right in the heart of the community will continue to help meet the demand for housing at Mueller."
