Delta and Air France Form Alliance / Salt Lake-to-Paris route greatly enhanced.

Air France-KLM chief Jean-Cyril Spinetta, left, and Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson ink joint venture. (Jacques Brinon/The Associated Press )

It means both airlines will sell seats on Delta's daily flights between Salt Lake City International Airport and Charles de Gaulle International Airport, which begin June 2...

... ''That's as close to a merger as you can get without actually merging,'' said airline analyst Michael Derchin of FTN Midwest Securities Corp, referring to the deals of both carriers. ''Because these guys can basically sit down and collude legally on pricing, scheduling, marketing - act as one firm. It's definitely a powerful tool.''

Aren't they already codeshare partners through Skyteam? What additional signifigance does this agreement have?

Thanks Viperlord for making that list on page 1. I think non-Utah residents like me appreciate it.

Looking good SLC! Good luck on Market Station.

I'm stoked about Market Station, I think it's a great idea and I hope that it comes off as proposed. While it's not downtown and we are all more in fill in Downtown geeks I think it will only have positive effects on the entire city. I think it will help to expand the definition of what Salt Lake Metro is, yes I understand that it is in South Salt Lake, but having a 27 story building at 21st South and downtown (where downtown is) the combination of the two could huge catalyst for much more infill along Traxx, Main Street, and State Street. I think we'll start to see not only the expansion along 400 South towards the U (go Utes), but along Main and State as well.

I think the only way that this can happen though is if it is developed at the size that is proposed, simply putting up some housing units won't help. The proposed size will be what helps to spur additional development around the project and north towards downtown.

Plus I don't think ANYONE will miss the vacant Burton Lumber yard and the crappy mostly vacant buildings on Main Street.

I'm also very stoked about this whole Market Station plan. I think that projects like this, the expansion of Trolley Square, 400 so. corridor, Gateway,Marmalade,etc.,etc., is forcing us to reconsider our perception of the boundaries of downtown. I want a denser downtown and a BIGGER downtown also

According to the article in the Des.News this morning, these same developers tested the water with their 76 unit, 7 store Central Pointe, which is next-door. It was so successful, they are immediately launching into this bigger project.

Boise hotel developer to construct facility in downtown Salt Lake

By Debbi Taylor
The Enterprise

AmeriTel, a Boise-based company that specializes in franchise hotels throughout the country, is planning to build its own hotel brand in downtown Salt Lake City.

A 125-room AmeriTel Inn is being proposed on about five acres between 300 West and 400 West and 600 South.

"It's going to definitely clean up that part of 600 South and make the entrance into the city a lot nicer," said Scott Abelman, vice president and chief financial officer of AmeriTel. "We're in the process of subdividing that parcel for two hotels and a restaurant."

Abelman said the site will definitely house an AmeriTel-brand hotel and possibly another franchise hotel. The company also built and operates the Hilton Garden Inn, located across the street from the new site on 600 South.

I guess its better than whats currently out in that area. I wish someone would go ahead and build a large freakn hotel here soon...

Hey guys

Yeah the "ice cube" court house is pure vommit. I'd rather have the Shubrick any day (and to think I frequented the bar of a sell out!). Even the surrounding asphalt parking lots seem more inviting than the proposal!

Market Station will be a groovy addition, especially if you could get there by trolley. Personally I think a smaller, antique looking trolley would be best, or at least something that would fit the ridership levels and be fun at the same time. If you haven't seen thier little website check it out.

Welcome Wasden! good to have you here..

I think a historic trolley in sugarhouse would be great. As long as it connects to TRAX and is not just some tourist trap.

Ameritel, Boise

I guess Ameritel is a nice enough, commercial style hotel. Nothing special, but definately not a Motel 6 either. I guess the city has decided to make 600 south 'Motel Alley,' at least between 500 west and State. I guess thats better than defunct warehousing. I'll just be happy when they do something about the utility lines.

A big welcome to Wasden also!!

Thanks for the welcome yall,

I've been reading your posts for a long time n thought I'd join in.

Motel Alley indeed! Certainly an improvement from the currant, but unfortunate that they also drain the downtown room market. I'd rather see all those rooms piled into one large hotel somewhere near the Salt Palace, it would sure make it easier to drag in bigger/better conventions. Why Marriott never joined the whole City Creek redevelopment band wagon is beyond me. Must have something to do with that profits/losses crap that I don't understand. But the location to the Salt Palace main entrance is unbeatable! And with City Creek at the back door, seems like you couldn't loose.

Well, I guess there is definately a healthy market in Salt Lake for the smaller hotels,(robust ski industry etc.) They also fill a niche for the Salt Palace. We'll definately see a large convention hotel closer to the Palace than the Grand and Little America, it's just a matter of when.
The land barons in the downtown market tend to make things a little complicated and pricey I think.

600 South...

Since 600 South seems to be getting new lowrise hotels I think it would be nice for that street to also get some highrise hotels as well. Come on lets built something over 4-stories please.

Corporate Relocations And Expansions To Utah Continue Hectic Pace

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695221269,00.html

A key to success, he said, is simply getting company representatives or site selectors to Utah. More than half the time, a site visit helps seal the deal.

"If we get someone to come and look, " Edwards said, "it makes all the difference."

I'm thinking the Grand will probably be the last of the big hotels on 600 for a while. The Salt Palace is wanting the larger hotels to be built closer to the convention center itself.
Who knows though, with all the urbanized, village centers popping up along the TRAX routes. Could be they'll put some sort of mega-resort hotel right along one of the lines on a large piece of available property. With the advent of the new developments along State and Main on 21st it seems all kinds of different projects are attractive. We're probably going to see some interesting announcements along No. Temple in the near future as TRAX makes it's way out to the airport.
I can't be excited enough about all of the urban-dense and attractive development that TRAX is going to generate around Salt Lake Valley.
