Fox News in general, uh, no, no surprise. The only reason I watch Fox7, (local news station) is because it's the oldest in town. I've just been watching it for years. Old habits die hard.

Nice shots mopacs. That second shot you have, you can kinda make out that 4 foot difference between the one american center and the one congress plaza.

Yes it is the oldest. KTBC started as a radio station in the early 30's and began TV broadcasting in 1952, eventually becoming the CBS affiliate. I know KTBC was owned by the Johnson family, and I once heard that LBJ was responsible for keeping all other VHF stations out of Austin, leaving only the weaker UHF stations to set up house. Whether that's true, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I always watched KTBC's news when it was CBS, but I jumped ship when they moved to the dark side.

Here are some shots I took during a 2hr period yesterday afternoon (10/6).. Lots of changes and updates. Even as 360 and Monarch top out, we've got several other projects well underway that will provide some continuation in our ever changing skyline. Here goes...

360....

The day before the crane was raised

Rising beyond AMLI2

AMLI2 and 360

Looking uptown

Looking up 3rd St

Monarch and 360, from W4th St

Monarch

Here are some Altavida construction shots.. The back portion of the property is now 2-3 levels above grade. The front half (garage) is slowly rising to the surface...

Austonian

Spring...

Crane parts

See? I'm not the only one watching

Here are a few miscellaneous shots.

360 and Monarch from the 15th Street bridge @ Lamar and House Park

This is a little hard to make out, but I found it noteable: 360 now pokes above the horizon from I-35 southbound near Braker Lane (above the pickup)

Nice set of photos, Mopacs! Unfortunately I was stuck in the office again all weekend and didn't get a chance to go out and photograph. For some reason I really liked the photo of the Austonian poster next to 100 Congress -- it almost give the illusion of both buildings there.

Thanks! Man, I can't wait to see Austonian and Altavida rise, just feet apart.

Great photos, Mopacs! I especially like that one looking up Guadalupe with the Dobie Center in the distance. Those of 360 and AMLI II together are awesome!

On the way home tonight, I noticed they had raised the crane for 360! Coming in on 290 this afternoon it was looming tall on the horizon, and I could tell right away that it had been raised. Also, they've topped off the 40th floor, officially tying Austin with San Antonio and Fort Worth at the moment for most number of floors. I can't believe that. I couple of years ago I would have laughed at the idea.

Shot from I-35 this evening. I hadn't even noticed at first that they had also put up the crane for Spring (far left). Man, our skyline is really growing! Photo from 10/7.

Question about Cranes

I noticed that the 360 crane is now anchored to the building in 3 places. Does anybody know what if any damage occurs to the condos that have the anchors in them? Do the anchors leave marks in the ceilings? I would hope that the construction process would not leave 6 damaged condos.

^ I really doubt it would. That just wouldn't make logical sense. That would be a better question for the engineering section of the forum since there are some in there that would know for sure. Forumer Amanita is a crane operator, she'll probably know about it. Send her a PM about it, click on her name I typed. I'd like to know myself how the cranes are attached, so if you find out, let us know also!

I thought they got better when they became Fox. As far as I can tell, Fox wasn't overtly conservative until the late 90's... i always thought it was the 'liberal' network back in the days of married with children...

now K-EYE, that's an abomination. they should just run more seinfeld instead of that. i was always a KXAN watcher, my mom is obsessed with jim spencer.

Me too. The days of Married with Children for Fox seemed liberal. The gags Al Bundy would pull were hilarious and cutting edge for the late 80s/early 90s. In Living Color?! Even giving birth to The Simpsons. Although, even now the Fox Network as far as regular tv goes, isn't all that conservative. They do, after all, run Family Guy. All the animated tv shows on Fox aren't exactly what you'd expect on a network that has a reputation for being conservative. Even King of the Hill is a parody of Texas itself. It's for that reason that I've stuck with it. Also, the other networks have horrible programming. Even Fox's few dramas, notably House and Bones are hands down some of the best writing and acting in recent years, and I'm no fan of drama. Believe me, I watch Fox's tv shows, but it has nothing to do with politics.

Faux news is really a separate thing from Fox Networks entertainment, even though the local news does now use some Faux news feeds. Murdoch isn't going to let politics get in the way of profit.

That's what makes Murdoch a genius - he's got us in a headlock with all the other entertainment programs. With the Simpsons comes Hannity and Colmes, at least indirectly. We subsidize his conservative mouthpieces, like the loss-making New York Post. It's not nearly as bad as in Australia, though, where most of the major cities there only have Murdoch-owned paper.

Hey everyone,

Just walked by the Spring site and they are hanging their crane today. Looks like it will be fully operational today.

Yes. They've also zoomed out on the 360 web cam and it shows Spring's crane going up also.

Check out the 1:53 pm image for best lighting. You can see the whole crane now, plus Spring's crane and part of The Monarch.

Thanks, Mopacs, for the great pics.

I saw them putting up the crane for Spring today and have some crappy pics that I took from the office. But this is them acctually putting up the last section.

Lots of cranes up and moving in this city its just crazy.

BTW went to the Monarch Launch party, and that place was packed at least 300 people, I got there like 45 min after it started and all the food was gone, and most of the brochures too. I did not see any floor plans laying around or any price lists. Did any one else go and get price lists?
