That appears to be a very high quality stone facing, which will definately be an attractive finish to that building.

Sugar House Granite block developer, Craig Mecham, previously unresponding to phone calls for an interview finally agreed to sit down with UtahStories.com. Mecham answers questions such as:

"What do you say to all of the people who fear we are trading local culture and businesses for more chain stores and a Gateway-type development?"

Wonderful post rmarkosian, and thankyou for the extra time you put into it.

I am grateful that Mr. Mecham is making a genuine effort to reclaim the beauty of the original architecture of Sugarhouse. I do hope we will see a genuine mix of the funky local and perhaps also some ecclectic retail that is new to the area.

Also passed by the new records library on No.Temple and Main today. I wanted to get a better look at the facing that T-Mac called to our attention. I am delighted to say that they are using a very classy, cream-colored stone. The high quality of the stone is obvious and will make a beautiful addition to downtown.

Are you referring to the St. Regis Hotel at Deer Crest? The St. Regis is definately a reality and is under construction. Here is an article from April of 2007.If you're referring to another project, then please specify.

My mistake.

After seeing the date on the original article and doing a Google search I couldn't find anything that stated the project was in fact going to happen. How often do we see what looks to be a wonderful project and see it fizzle into oblivion. On a brighter note General Growth Properties is soliciting bids for the demolition of the Cottonwood Mall! It looks like they aren’t going to wait after all.

No problem Millhouse, you kind of scared the beejeebee's out of me for a moment. I thought, "tell me it isn't so!" It's such a stellar project, I would hate it if it had fallen apart. I had remembered on a fairly recent thread that it had been announced several times and had received quite a bit of attention. Anyway, glad it's a reality.

Looks like this building is now topped out and crews are now taking down the crane.

Also have any one notice that the "Walker" sign is gone? How are I going to know now if it's going to Snow? LOL

I had to laugh where it said in the article how having a resort so close to the west side would encourage more Salt Lakers to ski. As if the resorts weren't close enough already. It's like a bunch of Angelino's that never make it to Disneyland or the beach.

As I understood it, they had planned to be finished with the remodeling by Sep. 28, with the replicated old sign mounted on top. I assume they are behind schedule.

That I know. I meant the WALKER CENTER part that wrapped around the top.

It has it in this rendering, but I know the original building did not have WALKER CENTER wrapped around it.
