No, they are not... which is a shame. But Friedman, out of the goodness of his soul and not due to any specific pressure, planned the River North Center development around them (he owns everything but the Adult Book Store). I have no idea if they will follow through with this plan, or if his good intentions will survive him if he leaves the firm, but for now I would consider those buildings safe. (And that's what I call good planning, by the way.

Of course, Friedman Properties has an incredible track record of preservation, so that is partly why the city is not afraid to leave many of his holdings in River North unprotected.
That said, the west wall of Marriott is probably going to stay exposed for a long while, hopefully indefinitely. The center parcel, south of the historic buildings and east of the big lot on Clark, was originally planned to be an open farmer's market area. I have no idea if that concept will survive either. Clearly, a lot of the original plan has been altered to a great degree.
