They're working on the 40th floor now. It'll have 44 floors total. Then there's a 10 foot roof above the mainroof/low roof where the spire stands on. Then of course the spire.

Driving on Mopac near Farwest I keep noticing a building that has the same eyebrow/crown that the Austonian's 2nd design had. The building on Mopac is maybe 3 stories but I take notice of the unique metallic overhang every time I pass the area. Bring back the "Brow" - Austonian!
I took a long lunch yesterday while working yet another weekend (hopefully this will be my last working weekend for a while). BTW, in case anyone is interested, I'm working on Guitar Hero III for the PC (based on the Xbox 360 code). But I took about 2 hours and walked around taking some shots and basically clearing my head.
Monarch wings:

AMLI:
Squirrel at Republic Square:
If he's looking for nuts, I know where he can find some
Ginger Man, before it's gone...
Altavida inching higher. They had a full crew working Sunday:
Digging was going on at the Austonian site on Sunday, too:
Covered sidewalk at Austonian:
Shore:
Visible progress seems to be very slow at the Legacy site, but I'm sure there's lots of stuff going on underground:
Wow, great shots! Thanks for the thorough update... Its been awhile since I've had the chance to walk the streets of downtown. The crown is really taking shape on the Monarch... I love it. Great to see the Austonian well underway and Altavida finally poking above ground.
And another Wow for Guitar Hero... you can say you were part of one of this decade's big phenomenons.

Priller.... Have you considered contributing to the site's building diagrams? Austin has virtually no proposed buildings represented, and you are as qualified as any to put these together...
Awesome pictures, priller! Love those shots of the Mexican-American Museum. Very nice. I'll have to go check it out. And great shot of Frost Bank Tower rising over the site at The Austonian. Good contrasts.

Hmm, that looks like it requires real drawing ability, of which I have very little.
I heard something about a Bass Pro Shop going in at Highland Mall also up to 4 highrises and an expansion of the mall, has anybody heard more on this???

I was at a conference last week and was speaking with a colleague from LA who told me that her son was a real estate investor out there. I mentioned Austin, and she told me he had been buying up property there, specifically multiple units in the 360. That made me wonder how many other units at the 360 were sold to speculators. I hope not many.
By the way, I thought I would soon be moving back to Austin, but my job will be taking me to Asheville, NC next for a couple of years. I should be down there in a few months. Though I've never been there, I've heard great things about it. Anyone been there before?
My mothers side of the family is from Asheville. Mind you, I havent been there in 10 years so alot of my experiences are geared towards 15 year old Stooge (and younger).
Its a nice (albiet small) city. The moutains are awesome, and there is plenty of outdoor activity.. if you like toobing around Austin, what they have in that part of the world will blow your mind.
I would suggest going to Chimney Rock to hike at least once (its where they filmed the end of last of the mohicans with daniel day lewis), and going to whatever that lake is thats right next to it. In the middle of the summer that lake is REALLY cold. Floating or rafting the tukaseegee river is also alot of fun.
Biltmore mansion is also alot of fun at least once. They also have a dairy (more or less an icecream shop) that is really good... better than Amy's for my money (though nostalgia and fond childhood memories may be playing a role here).
Maggie Valley is an awesome little city not too far away that has some great eateries/stuff to do. Cherokee North Carolina (just a little past Maggie Valley) is an indian reservation and has lots of tourist trap type stuff, but more importantly has at least two casinos (tribal casino and a harrahs).
The only real downside to Ashville is the redneck ratio is pretty high. They also used to have a really cool 100 year old ball park that Babe Ruth had played at.. then they tore it down to build a new one.. but they do still have minor leauge baseball (rockies affiliate A-ball team last count I had).

Haven't been there, but a lot of my family is in NC and I've only heard good things - funky artsy vibe alongside some more established money which likes it because of great natural beauty, etc. Could do a lot worse.
Is something being built there or are they just going out of business
Another condo will be going up in that space, reportedly. But they're not going away. The plans are to move to another location with a back yard. I've heard they're looking around the 6th and Lamar area. But all this probably won't happen for a while (1-2 years).
