Those aren't bad at all. Considering the dodgy state of the streetscape over there, these look very optimistic.

thx Mr D

I kinda like the retro look of that building, and the view of the cube farm from street level is ...... I wonder what it would be like to work there ?

Developer plans boutique hotel in West Loop
By Alby Gallun

(Crain’s) — A South Carolina developer has jumped into the crowded downtown hotel market by buying a West Loop property where it plans to build a boutique hotel.

An affiliate of Greenville, S.C.-based JHM Hotels Inc. has paid $4.1 million for an 11,700-square-foot parcel at 150 N. Jefferson St. near the Ogilvie Transportation Center, according to documents filed with the Cook County Recorder.

150 N Jefferson is currently a surface parking lot at the corner of Randolph and Jefferson. I can see this being a good spot for a boutique hotel, especially with it being across the street from a number of high-end restaurants, like Blackbird and Mejhi (sp?)

Not to mention, I think Catalyst is going to go up in the parking lot next to this one. With these buildings and R+D659 currently going up, the large amount of parking lots in the western part of the loop just east of the expressway are finally starting to bite the dust!

Also, I just took a brief look at R+D659's website....according to the website the building will be 17 stories high; page 1 on this site has it listed as 15.

In a sinister way, I almost hope that the current wolf point proposal doesnt happen. I know I'm going to get destroyed by opposition on this, but I just believe that the WP site needs to be the best of the best, even by chicago's standards. It doesn't have to be taller than the spire, but it appears they're aiming for a height between trump and WV. I'd rather have one huge anchor building for our incredible skyline than three including a 1200 footer. The site is possibly the greatest for a supertall in the U.S. if not the world, and it should be a lasting legacy like big john, sears, or the spire. It must define this city.

I've been feeling the same way about the WP proposal and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Chicago can build an 89-story tower anywhere. A high-profile, high-visibility location like Wolf Point deserves to hold an architectural icon of height and beauty. I know it sounds greedy, but it's the way I feel about it.

I agree. I feel WP should be Chicago's second tallest.

Thanks for the 353 North Clark pictures, harryc. I walked past the site on my way to lunch, but I didn't have my camera. I'm glad you captured these. The stitched photos look great. What a terrific vantage point.

It's a pretty easy one for me. In the end they used 273 truck loads of cement, finished about 4:30.

I will put up a bigger set of photos of the mat in the engineering section soon. 7-8' thick mat, the rock caissons terminated at exactly the right depth, with the rebar just reaching the top layer for the mat, truly impressive co-ordination between 2 separate contractors.

I have felt this way from the start. WP is too prominent a location for anything but a very significant building. And yes it should be the second tallest even if it means waiting a little longer for market projections to come around. Best way to do accomplish this, in my mind, is to build a single multi-use building instead the proposed three towers.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they made this proposal from 89 stories to 110 stories or so, because they have so much competition of similar heights now that W-A is out there. This site demands greatness of historical proportions, and I think someone important oughta know this.

Provence planning green condos in River North
Posted 9/27/2007 by Kate Hawley
A slow market apparently isn't deterring Provence Development Group, which recently announced plans for 9 West Erie, an eco-friendly high-rise in River North. The developer will seek LEED certification for the 14-story tower, according to Lynn Reidl, of Real Living Helios, an agent marketing the project.
