I was thinking about that this morning as I walked to work. It's already shaping up as a nice canyon, but I was dreaming about that SOM supertall sitting between Fremont and First. Throw in Piano across the street and this will go from "nice" to "holy $#!^."

And to look way out in the future, we could be saying the same about Howard some day.

Here's what it looked like as of Friday last week. It's getting there, slowly but surely.

You know what, it's actually looking like a tower now ! If it were in the same place as ORH and not surrounded by other buildings at its present height, it would be very prominent.
It's just starting to poke up over all the shorties to the east, south, and north, though, so the coming months should be a lot more fun and visible to watch than the past looong months

Very true. You can see the crane from a lot of various angles now. But then I look at it against 50 Fremont and think: man, it has a long way to go yet!

^^^Long way to go = 21 stories plus the crown. I counted 39 (counting the upper level of framing) done. The core is, of course, a few floors higher. All the renderings show it taller than 50 Fremont but looking at it now I'm having trouble imagining that (mentally trying to add another 50% and a crown).

BT, I looked at it from Rincon Hill today. From that vantage point, you can see that it will easily clear 50 Fremont with another 21 floors + crown. Then I walked down Spear to Howard, and from there (much closer, more extreme perspective) it doesn't look nearly so clear-cut. Funny that it should seem so much taller from farther away than up close.

Do you think Millennium construction had something to do with this:

No, I believe that happened in front of the new Foundry Square building. I walked past there during my lunch break 'cause I wanted to get a close up view of Millenium and then saw later in the news that that was the very site that the road collapsed.

Yep, the reports say it was the new water main to FS I that broke as they were re-burying it. Amazingly, they had repaired the line and redone the road as of 7:00 this morning. The concrete was still curing, so the right lane was still closed, but the rest of First was open.

Wow, just seeing what goes on below the tar of the roads, it's so hollow looking down there I'm surprised how any of those roads stay up. It's all so amazing to me. It also looks like there could be secret tunnels and underground societies down there, which I heard was the case in Vegas (used to live there) back in the mobster days.

Great minds think alike. I had my camera yesterday and thought: "no one has shot the hole in awhile" when lo and behold CityKid comes through. I'll go ahead and post mine only to show how much progress they made over the weekend. This corner on Friday wasn't poured yet when CityKid walked by, and here it is on Monday early afternoon:

And on this side of the hole the row of columns just right of center have been poured and had the forms removed:

Craning my neck and still not quite getting all of it:
