^^^ That's one of my worst fears come true. I knew there would be some downside to the gentrification of Gastown. I like the Cambie the way it is Next they'll be trying to turn Club 23 West into another Modern...

Just a heads up, that there is a new "retail" thread in the Business and Econ forum. On VibrantVictoria it really helped split discussions on retail and commercial goings-on from development or other general news.

Just something to consider...

The Cambie rendering isn't too accurate, I don't think it will get approved anyways, the biggest part of it is to triple the amount of rooms of the hostel, it will still include the pub, offsales, and a bakery. Believe it or not it hold the record for most Labbat blue draft sold in a single establishment. Somehow it even made it on GQ's list of 10 best pubs in the world. Not sure what year, or how the heck they pulled that off.

Yes dude. This is prolley the most important topic in this section for the simple fact that all we have to do is check in here for the latest news if we don't have the time to look at every thread.

Keep in mind that this thread should only cover news for developments that don't have a thread already. i.e. don't talk about the Shangri-la or convention centre here.

^Yup, let's not repeat things in these threads that should go elsewhere. If you have something to say about a project, look up its appropriate thread of create a new one (new one's don't have to have any more info than the name, height, status, and your message).

I like this thread, since it replaces the Vancouver Construction general thread. But, since this is Downtown updates (which I like),

shouldn't we create a Vancouver City Updates sticky thread too? Especially since the city is increasingly cooking with activity.

I agree, we should limit this Downtown Update thread to the peninsula and western Downtown Eastside/Chinatown, the Vancouver City Update Im proposing would be general updates for rest of the city proper.

Thoughts?

This thread does not replace the construction thread. Construction discussions should take place within their respective construction project threads, and if a project with no thread is getting more than the odd post it should go into its own thread. Non-development updates can go here, and rumours can go in the separate rumours thread.

Dude, that really kills this thread then, cause aside from the projects listed there isn't THAT much going on. I would elect now that we be allowed to use the forums as set up, as we wish, and provide you with feedback. If someone has a quick update for shangri-la, or even a major news story, such as it's breaking the 491 foot mark, then why not post it here for the folks to see aswell as the construction threads?

Many people don't have the time to sort through each and every thread, as such i feel we should have this general thread for those such people, aswell as the specified threads for more in depth conversation.
