Awesome photo update, thanks.
I had lunch at Rocket Pizza the other day. I really am impressed with how nice the OBD is. Medallion needs to hurry the hell up...

Blossom, Banquette, Colori Kitchen and Wood Spoon are all very good and very reasonably priced. I don't think there's anything on the menu at Colori Kitchen over $12 or $13.

I went to Wood Spoon this week for dinner and I can't recommend it enough. It was amazing. That would be Suggestion No. 1 for anyone checking out Downtown. It's a Brazilian-inspired casual cafe. Burgers and sandwiches are around $10. It's a little out of the way on 9th Street near Main, but try to go there if you can.

In the OBD there is Rocket Pizza, which I really enjoy. I've heard good things about Warung, though I've never been. Weeneez for a cheap but tasty hot dog is a good bet (try the chili dog).

Let's build on LAofAnaheim's great photo update. These were taken today, Sunday, September 23rd. I tried not to repeat any shots.

Evo
Working on the 19th floor, so 4 more to go.

All three South buildings from 12th and Flower. From this angle, Evo should be just taller than the AT&T Center when it's topped out. Frank L. Robinson building demolition in the foreground.

LA Live
Just one shot here, looking down Figueroa. Ritz Residences picture in the appropriate thread.

Hanover Tower
The crown is slowly getting finished off.

A close-up of the exterior cladding. From what I could tell, it looks like a combination of painted concrete and stucco. I'll wait until it's finished to fully render a judgement, but I don't have high hopes.

717 Flower
Working on the 5th floor. It's already starting to make it's presence known from Figueroa.

LAPD Headquarters
This one shot up in no time. Already working on the 6th floor. The blue fence at the bottom is on the sidewalk, which gives you an idea how far this building is set back from the street. Granted, they're supposed to widen 2nd Street as part of this project, but damn.

The crane arm has been dropped down because someone snuck into the site at night and started playing with the crane, as well as making off with some electrical equipment. Ironic that the building that's supposed to be the most secure in this building boom is the one with the worst security.

Grand Avenue Gets Retail Approvals

News Brief

The Grand Avenue project took another significant step forward last week when the City Council approved entitlements and conditional use permits for the residential, retail and restaurant portions of the massive $2 billion development by Related Cos. In approving the recommendations of the city's Planning Department, officials gave the okay for the sale of alcohol at as many as 35 establishments throughout more than 449,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Included in the measure was the denial of an appeal of the project by the owner of the Bonaventure Hotel. The hotel's attorney has threatened legal action.

I definitely don't blame 'big business'. I also don't blame the owner of Bishop's. There's no moral component to this. The way I see it, South Park is an evolving neighborhood, it is growing up fast. That change overwhelmed Bishop's, so now it is closed.

I see Bishop's as a pioneer in the area, a small coffee and grocery store that provided a service to a new neighborhood that wanted coffee and specialty groceries. Now, the demand for groceries is more than Bishop's can handle. Ralphs can handle it, so bye-bye Bishop's.

Anybody opening up a little grocery store (if they are a competent businessperson) should take into account the risk that competition come in and take away business.

You're the first to come up with a good wide angle shot of the mandell bldg since its been renovated, & one that confirms that fencing now does surround most of the LA central site! I hope some street trees will be installed around the coulter-mandell bldg. It looks kind of barren right now.

Beyond your recommendations for restaurants, I notice your web site has the first shots of the pinkberry in a state of being ready to open in little Tokyo. I've been wondering about that store for a long time. As you mentioned on your site, I hope the new yogurt place gives some life to that small shopping ctr south of 2nd St, across from the Japanese village plaza.
