Neighbors hear amended plan for Columbus site

September 21, 2007
By FELICIA DECHTER

Twenty-six additional feet of height--approximately 14,000 square feet--is the main bone of contention with neighbors shown a developer's proposal to amend the planned development for the former Columbus Hospital property, 2520 N. Lakeview Ave.
...
The proposed amendment calls for two additional floors added onto the project's center tower, as well as 10 additional townhomes.

I'm going to be seeing Chris Carley's upcoming project within the next few weeks. Remember, he wants to develop the southern 2/3 portion of the lot north of the Sheraton.

This is the ~70 story proposal, correct? Do we know anything else outside of an idea on number of floors? I think I remember an article being posted awhile back. Not sure if there was anything significant noted.

I'm always astonished that people really take the time and exert SO much energy when it comes to high rise changes. I mean 2 additional feet really make all that much difference! gove me a break its a densely populated neighborhood where a singel high rise may rise once every 10 to 20 years anymore! Do you idiotic NIMBY's really think an additional 5-15 condos is really gonna affect your lives so much that you feel the need to attend, make signs, protest and moan about such a matter. You moved to city that is constantly changing and growing so DEAL or LEAVE!!!!!! so irritating and i don't even live on the neighborhood!

i finally found the time to do a page 1 update. there was A LOT of stuff from the past 2 weeks, so i probably missed a couple things, but outside of updating the many new height figures that dan and victor found, the main updates are as follows:

- moved 340 on the park to "completed"

- moved glashaus to "site prep/demo"

- moved winthrop club in evanston to "under construction"

- added 5649 north sheridan and its rendering

- added lurie children's hospital and its rendering

- added grant park tower 4 and its rendering

- added grant park tower 3 and its rendering

^ Thanks Steely.

Not sure if this has been reported yet, but The Admiral appears to be in Site Prep / Demo (grrr - still annoyed by the last part of that).

^ are you referring to "the admiral at the lake" up in edgewater? assuming so, that news has not been reported here, thanks for the (unfortunate) update.

No problem. Perhaps one of the Emporis troops can head up that way, just to confirm that what is going on counts officially as site prep. Not sure exactly what process they are using, but the sign in the back reads "demolition" and there clearly is a lot of activity.

Is there a particular time of year in Chicago in which its more likely for construction projects to begin? For example, does the frost make excavation work more expensive? Are there other factors that determine the time of year they begin?

From the Brown Line, there appeared to be fencing along the site at the NE corner of Orleans and Huron. Anyone know what's going on at that site?
