Ground broken on Four Seasons

After five years of working on a deal to bring the Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences to Denver, developers Jeff Selby and Michael Brenneman broke ground today on the $300 million project.
The 45-story Four Seasons will stand about 600 feet high at 14th and Arapahoe streets downtown.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper called the Four Seasons a "legacy" project that will be talked about for decades.
"This will cement our status as the Rocky Mountain center for finance and commerce," Hickenlooper said. "It demonstrates how far we have come as a city."
The building will have 240 hotel rooms and 102 private residences ranging from 1,000 square feet to 6,100 square feet. More than 30 percent of the condos have been sold, including the two penthouses.
The hotel, which will occupy the first 16 floors of the building, also will feature a Four Seasons restaurant, lobby lounge and bar, health and fitness center, spa, rooftop pool with dining and bar, and about 16,000 square feet of meeting space. Residences will start on the 18th floor.
Toronto-based Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts will operate the hotel and manage the residences. It's expected to be completed by spring 2010.
Peter Hodgson, vice president of corporate planning for Four Seasons, said the hotel likely would have the highest rates in Denver.
"High rates don't indicate the Four Seasons is an elitist company," Hodgson said. "We like to give the highest level of service to ordinary people who like to be treated like dukes and duchesses."
Within the first 10 years, the project is expected to have a $100 million economic impact, stemming from sales taxes, property taxes and room and lodging taxes. More than 1,000 jobs will be created.
