I am TOTALLY SUPER-JAZZED about this tower. I for one, had written it off. I CAN NOT BELIEVE that they are breaking ground!!

I think that ^ may get my enthusiasm for this project across adequately. And yes, this does deserve it's own, long-awaited, thread.

Yes, it's still a bit of a disappointment when compared to what it was first pitched as so many years ago. But I really like the new design--very linear, but also very airy. I hope the glass turns out to be spectacular, like the glass on Wells Fargo so often is. I think it will be a perfect complement to One Utah Center, and Wells Fargo. And it's perfect for this portion of Main Street--pretty much the only block of Main with any life in it at all right now. I'm also glad to see the strip mall gone--Finally!! Can't wait to start watching this one rise!!

Will there be passageways/alleys between 222 and the Karrick Building and Hotel Monaco? I've seen it with alleys and without--with it flush against both buildings. I'm hoping they keep it open, connecting it with that "mid block passage" by the American Towers building. Anything to break up these freaking huge blocks...

Just a reminder of what this site has looked like for the past six years, while awaiting ground-breaking of 222 South Main.

These were the temporary storefronts built before the olympics, which were finally demolished last week. Photo taken by me on April 30, 2007.

You know, one thing I hadn't realized until looking at the this plan, was the angle on the south-portion of the building fronting main, not just the north portion. This Tower is going to look very sharp from main street.

This is certainly a good sign, but, as I'm sure the Boise forumers would agree, and given this project's tenuous past, breaking ground and digging a deep hole does not necessarily portend certainty of construction. I hope this happens, and I can't wait to see pictures of steel rising, but I hate to get my hopes up too much about this one. I don't mean to be a downer though, so please continue with your previously scheduled partying!

Of course, you're right Utaaah, One can never be 100% certain. I would be reluctant though to compare Hamilton Partners to the Boise Place developer. Hamilton is a very conservative,(Many on this forum would say too conservative) Chicago-based developer, with quite a portfolio under their belts. The developer at Boise Place had been found to have declared a half dozen or so bankruptcies, among other questionable activities.

Yeah, if 222 turns into Boisetower round two, then I'm gonna be ticked. With the way HP keeps delaying the tower (until now), I'm not gonna believe it's a done deal until I see the flooring guys laying carpet.

I went to the site this morning and I ask a guy what time the groundbreaking is. He said it's at 4:00. I'll be there.

4:00 groundbreakings seem to be popular today... I'll be up at the Red Butte Gardens for the new amphitheater/rose garden groundbreaking today. So you'll have to take some good pictures.

KSL.com is showing a new rendering/model of the project on their website.

Also, as this building progresses, my company has leased the 14th floor of the Wells Fargo Center and it has a great view of the 222 S Main site.

If ever anyone wanted to have a real Utah forum meet, we could probably cruise up there and take some pictures...

Wow

I honestly think this is the best designed upcoming skyscraper in salt lake. It looks better then the ones being built in the city creek center imo.

The Residential Tower #1 is FAR better than this. I mean, it's decent, but not great.

CCC's tower 1 and the Hamilton tower are two very different styles. I think at this stage, just looking at models and renderings its easier to get a grasp of tower 1 and its final look when built. I'm definately excited about the Hamilton tower though, just wondering a little how it's skin will look when translated into reality. Both towers are an exciting addition to the downtown.
