Looks like a giant air traffic control tower. I like it much better than the previous communication/observation tower proposals in Chicago.

I don't get it. 500,000sf sounds like a lot. That seems to imply there's usable floor space rathert than a solid structure. But the uses listed didn't include residential or office. Am I missing something?

somebody needs to find out how far along this is. i see that they intend to build this on land controlled by the mccormick place authority, which is a public agency. there must be some public info on this if this is serious.

also, the sears tower is running about 25% vacant right now. on the one hand, all of this supertall development clearly makes it less of a security problem since it would only be the fourth tallest building in the united states, and anything that makes the building less of a security problem is going to be very good for the sears tower's vacancy rate. on the other hand, i am sure that the sears tower people enjoy a nice revenue stream from their communication and observation businessess. without that revenue, and if vacancies continue, i wonder if there might be a future in which the top 1/4 building is just closed off. thoughts?

Well, I seem to be alone on this one, but I dont like it. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually, but right now I dont think so. Looks to be in the same vein as Pelli's tweezer. Up close, it looks cool (at least the observatory section - and the idea of the glass floor sounds awesome), but as a whole it just doesnt work somehow. Viewed from afar its not graceful, its not interesting; it just looks like a simple antenae. So for now, im hoping this one doesn't go through - at least this version.
