I will start giving this thread more love. I put lots of my energy in to Baltimore my hometown where I live and also look at other buildings around the country, and spend a lot of time keeping up with the CS thread as there are so many posts!

This building has the perfect reason to go over 1000' ft as the lot is only so big

This small photo of the cladding test in Miami was included in the WV newsletter. The curtainwall is granite and glass (with metal accents, obviously).

Obvously this building wil not be the same as 77 West Wacker, but it looks like the cladding will resemble its neighbor to some extent. It will be interesting to see the contrast or lack there of when the cladding starts going up....Ill probly say this again in a year or so once the skin starts rising...

Thanks for the pics....I don't know what I think yet, then again this is only one segment of what I imagine to be a few in order to make one "piece" of the cladding pattern. Is that muted gray the final color?

Cladding looks okay IMO. Not spectacular, but not bad either. A bit above good.

Anyways, I think the top few floors and the crown are going to make the Waterview Tower truly stand out.

Thanks BVictor. Do you have access to a larger version of the one I posted?

I'm not crazy about the "Vinyl Windows from Feldco" grey either.... we'll have to see it on the whole building, but it looks kind of generic and cheap to me at the moment. It will be nice to see real stone on a building here, however, after so much imitation concrete etc. for so long. It may not be the most cutting-edge design of a curtainwall being made these days, but at least it's going to be quality.

If anything, seeing the curtainwall under production in China should put a lot of people at ease concerning Teng's intention and ability to make this thing rise. Now I guess people will start speculating that the building will be built only to the height of the setback, just enough for the hotel?

BVic, do you have any other pictures of the curtain wall? It looks pretty good, and like honte said, it's nice that real stone is being used. And I like the glass, but the metal framing leaves something to be desired. Maybe I will change my mind when I see more of it, or see it outside (like a bigger version of the picture honte posted).

I'm surprised to see stone at all - from the renderings it looked like this building would be a purely steel and glass facade, with a higher steel:glass ratio than Trump.

I don't know what to think yet. Difficult to say without seeing it in context. I think what most people care about is how they look in its entirety on the building, not standing 2 feet away ... who is going to see it 2' away several stories up anyway. As to as whether they look cheap or not, hard to say IMO from a picture like this. I recall seeing photos like this of the Trump glass and I thought they looked great except that now that it is on the building, many people complain that the glass is cheap because of the "waviness" of the glass.

^Also, this glass appears to be "set" within the framing (ie, the frame extends maybe 8 inches or so beyond the glass), yet the glass in the picture honte posted appears to be flush with the frame (and some of it has stone on top of the framing, in between the glass, and some of it doesnt...perhaps this picture was taken before they finished putting this sample of the curtain wall together). I like the way it looks in honte's picture, but in BVic's not so much...trying to reconcile the two

Nice stone. That could make this building a nice transition on the river. The grey color is a bit like what you't find on a naval ship.

We'll see what it looks like when it gets up. Did we have details on when they plan to start the siding?
