I can't get over the condo in the last shot, It looks impressive, I look at it out of my window every day and it looks very drab from my angle.

Notice that even with the steel rising fast they are still digging out the sub-basement and the raker beams(?) have not been cut out yet.

Yeah it's going to be fun watching a steel building fly up into the sky. I remember being downtown and seeing the Hyatt Center and 111 S Wacker under construction, but that was before I discovered this board, so I never got to see the construction process.

I have followed _many_ Chicago buildings as they went up. As long as I can remember. But it was only once in several months at a time would I get an update and that was only by driving to Chicago and and taking a quick 10 second glance as I drove by.

This forum is the super-coolest thing I have found on the web in a long time. And I've been on the web since '95.

Keep up all the great work. It's nice to see a forum where the cool people and excellent moderators outnumber the haters and trolls by a significant margin (unlike many other forums I have been to).

Great pics Solarwind. The lobby floor is absolutely huge! I love projects that sacrifice a little rentable space in order to have an impressive entrance. Great building.

Correct me if I am wrong, but would this be a "composite" structure, assuming they pour the concrete floor slabs, that was mentioned in the constuction of the Spire a week or so back?

there are two reasons that the core has been stopped.

1. Structual iron workers will not work on the job if the core is more than 10 floors higher than the structual steel.

2. There are foundation walls that need to be finished to finish the structual steel sequences in the lower levels of the site.

Is that a Chicago thing? I recall seeing many a core rise 15+ stories ahead of the steel. In Portland, the Fox tower (27 stories) had the core almost topped out ahead of the steel at like level 3.

Here is the Comcast in Philly, I count 15-16 stories of core ahead of the steel

Perhaps someone in the know knows why they can rise so high on such a small base? Just wondering.
