I ran low on Memory card space, so the selection of pics is limited. For those of you who have not seen this project recently, it is a total knock out.

These pictures are beautiful (thank you!) but you've really gotta see this one in person. It's super dynamic; driving by on the Edens affords an awesome sequence of views that gives you the sense the whole thing is changing shape-- thin slabs sliding past each other. (I can't tell you how many times I've almost gotten into an accident gawking at it...)

And I love the red balconies. They make for a more playful modernism, characteristic of all his buildings. My favorite is still probably Optima Towers in Evanston (Optima-ton?); it's really well integrated into its surroundings. But this one's definitely a winner.

The suburban location seemed to me a bit curious for a design so urban/urbane... then again, it is supposed to be something like a "community" in and of itself, so I'm guess it's creating all the urbanism it needs or something silly. Oh, well... now Old Orchard mall-- er, Westfield-- has a built in consumer base.

I've been concerned about this one for a while - no one was talking about tearing down, but it's in need of repair, and the repair needs to be top-notch. Certain unique elements, such as the lightbulb-lit lower corniceline (which hasn't functioned properly in a long while), might have otherwise been lost.

Shawn! thanks so much for making mention of this building! I've always wondered about that building, because I practically get into an accident every time I drive by it

You are certainly right, I hope he does design something nice for chicago

no, the articles haven't mentioned anything about the demolition of the apparel center for this project, so i'd imagine that it's not in play for this proposal. some people on this forum have said that they'd like to see it demo'd to open up more room for this 3 tower project, but that's not what it sounds like the reality will be.

Most interesting to me about Ryan's sketchup stuff showing the theoretical Wolf Point (thanks Ryan), is that Waterview is missing. I wonder if we saw them all together, if one would start to think that there is a bit of visual monotony in the heights? It's amazing how dense the River is becoming from Aon to Wolf Point.

I'm just bringing this up as another illustration of why this building ideally would be > 1100'.

this many rooms alone could make a 500' building
add a parking podium, beefed up due to mcCormick Place's parking needs
and the trend towards tall and thin in the neighborhood
this could turn into a 600-700' building

then again it could be a 20 story lowenberg building

Hmm...I wonder what the PDNA will have to say about this one, and how it fits in with their precious little historic district. Although I seriously wonder if it will have an impact on the Rokas proposal, since many views may be obstructed.

Havent you heard that tall buildings cast their shadow rays of death upon historic buildings even blocks away corroding the historic fascades like acid? Oh and the parking god will be displeased.

Hey, it looks great right now, anyhow.

Just add Aqua, Legacy at MP, and 300 N. LaSalle as well, and it'll be close to perfect.

I think you're confusing historic buildings with public recreation areas
and when this building's shadow is the longest it will be shading the rest of the convention center and possibly the lake

so shadows should no problemo
