Harryc, please repost your post with the link to your slideshow showing construction up to this point. It was really interesting and didn't find it necessary to delete. It must have been mixed up with all the other junk posts. Thanks.

Looking at the entire project all at once like that rally gives an appreciation for the complexity of the excavation.

Steely, please don't get upset -- this is not bitching and moaning but just an observation. I was by the site on 7/3 when I posted that they were assembling the forms for the ground floor. Now, they've poured half of that ground floor and it looks like they are getting ready to pour the other half (rebar in place etc.). That was 22 days for one floor. Assuming that the ground floor is floor 1 and that they have 89 to go, at that rate it will take 5.4 years to build this building.

Still not bitching and moaning...just a question: is there something about being "out of the ground" that will enable the pace to accelerate on this?

Another observation: when I went by it was 8:00 p.m. All construction workers at WV had left for the day but the construction elevators on Trump were going up and down and up and down....

Trump is one of the few exceptions. The overwhelming majority of crews constructing high-rise buildings are gone before 8:00 PM.

Walking by the site at around 6PM, I noticed that the 1st floor west columns were already poured and free standing and the big mother columns at the north end were being poured. Its exciting to see something other than the core rise from street level.

I am sure some nice photos are on the way........

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they trying to open a portion of the hotel for Trump by the end of this year? I mean I swear I could have read that somewhere on this forum

My assumption is that they have a hell of a lot of work to do in order for this to become a reality.

Great progress! That last pic has me shaking my head. It's got to be tough working in such close quarters to another building like that. Just moving the forms has to take twice as long so your don't crash into the other building.

That's definitely pretty tight clearance there.

No doubt they had to survey the Lasalle - Wacker building to make sure it doesn't lean the slightest amount into the Waterview's lot.

Absolutely. When you're out of the ground you don't have to worry about tons of earth collapsing in on you. Also, I would imagine that the extent and complexity of the concrete work is much less for a residential or hotel floor when compared to an underground ramp.

In Minneapolis, there is a building currently u/c (The Ivy) that is on a somewhat similar site (close quarters, deep excavation, all parking underground). It took FOREVER for that thing to get out of the ground, but once it did it grew at the usual pace of one floor every 4 or 5 days.

Boy this thing is really flying now!!So much for the Teng financial problems.
This is my favorite tower now under construction in Chicago until the Spire
starts construcion

Waterview will look so classy when complete.

.....I was standing on the Michigan Av bridge tonight.....and you can see Waterview out of the ground from the bridge now !
