I'm concerned that they will turn Loyalist Plaza into a kitschy tourist-centric location. Right now it’s a people place – where skateboarders perform and people play volleyball.
I recall from what I’ve seen of Hardman’s plans on their website that they want to level the volleyball courts. I think this would be a mistake that shows a priority for short-term visitors over residents trying to make the city their home.
The article in the paper had vague promises about trying to keep the courts, but I’m sure they could back out of that.
Good thing Hardman’s involved though; it should give us at least several years of an undisturbed Loyalist Plaza if their work on the coast guard station is any indication.
