Folk Festival

Been to the folk festival... great overall, a bit too clean and family friendly, but great music and atmosphere.

I noticed that the average guy/girl in there was handsome... I usually focus on one/few people, but it was really a hit to the senses with all that flashes around.
The singer of "The cat empire" is definitely one of the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, the way he dances is just... can't tell.

If anything there was too much sun. I am a rosy shade of pink. Good times, good weather, good people.

So which part did you find to be family friendly? Was it all the girls walking around in pasties? Or was it all the drugs going around? Maybe it was the performers/hosts dropping F bombs all over the place...

I dunno... I'd suggest stepping away from the Children's Tent to experience the rest of the festival.

Anyways, I really enjoyed this years festival. I am a big fan of world music, so for me my favourite acts were African Guitar Summit (great Friday evening show) and Toumani Diabaté's Symmetric Orchestra. Lubo Alexandrov
and the Kaba Horo Ensemble was also awesome.

Next year will be my 25th festival!

It was packed with families and children, don't you call it family friendly??? And which drugs were there? Only pot. Still I liked that no one gave a damn about the nice smell of weed going on.
It was too clean, no fights, no screams, no one really badly drunk, no one really dirty or trashy... The people there was the "nice hippie type", not the true hippie. I guess the price makes a selection.
I like these kind of events and ours (in Tuscany) are "wilder", where you just step in and are offered amphetamine or whatever.

promoting violence and hard core drugs?... time to go back to Tuscany buddy. Folk Fest is all about peace, music, relaxation, good times.

I concur. Fights? What the hell? I grew up at Folk Fest and have never seen anything like that before. It's just a good time... why would anyone be fighting? What are you talking about 'true hippie'? There have always been families and kids there.

I enjoy Folk Fest more now that I have kids. The smiles that my one year old daughter brought to others was priceless ... you don't see that in a mosh of drunks pitching tents in a parking lot (remember Sunfest). This year was great and is easily the best Folk Festival in Canada, probably in part to how dedicated our volunteers are in Winnipeg. There were a very large proportion of Americans there this year, seemed higher than usual.
