Maybe I'm just a little behind the times... but I wanted to mention that I saw tonight for the first time the beacon of the Palmolive building lit. It looks phenomenal!!!

Does anyone know if this was just a celebratory gesture for the 4th of July, or if perhaps they have gained approval to light it now that Natarus is toast?

I hope everyone gets a chance to see it (and hopefully on a regular basis).

Unless there is an earlier rendering, I think it actually may look better in real life. However, it is still somewhat butt ugly and strangely proportioned IMO. I actually shop at the Jewel there all the time, so the building, by uses, is useful to the urban landscape at least...

I think Grand Kingsbury looks really good, and it adds a lot of height for its area.

I think Kingsbury turned out very nicely too, and is a great extension of the skyline. I prefer it from its thinner side though.

I saw it as well. I think they might turn it of for special events, at least that's what i heard on the news. Personally, I think it should be on all the time and do its full 360 swoop. The bastards that complain need to invest in Eddie Z's (for those not from the area, they have a warehouse full of blinds and drapes)

Hmmm... It has an uncanny resemblance to all of the REAL historic buildings that Chicago has torn down in the past 40 years. It especially reminds me of the grand old apartment hotels that used to stand in the South Loop.

At least I'm glad he's moved away from Faux-Arts French crap and into fake Chicago Style buildings. But that's about the only positive thing I can say about it.

we've seen these buildings before from Lucien. Dont let that "old School Feel" fool ya/ they always turn out to be the same ole shit, eesentially a parking podium painted puke beige to look old with a few other shades of puke thrown in for variety. Then topped with some more painted precast that has a few so called "Chicago Style" windows for drama! These buidings never look good by the time their finished! The worse ive seen yet and will have a "HULKING" effect on State street when its finished is Walton on the Park!!!! that really needs to be destroyed before it sucks the life out of the streetscape with its block long white parking podium and fake columns ! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL, yet Daley lets it keep happening over and over and over. too bad its always about tax dollars!
