Are there any plans for that surface lot to the left of the Marriot Suites?

It seems like a great location to put a nice building, without demolishing those nice 3-4 story buildings in the area.

yeah, the PD that was approved for "river north center" (which also includes 353 n clark and the river north marriott suites) specified a residential tower of around 500' on that piece of real estate.

I know Friedman had planned for it to be condo, but imo all signs point to this one being launched as a rental tower instead. Here's an obvious possibility - Habitat Co (the leading River North apartment developer) JVs with Friedman to launch this as a rental soon. It makes a lot of sense. I don't want this to remain vacant until Friedman feels comfortable with the condo market. Apartment units at this location would rent out like hotcakes - it's time for action here...

So I would be very interested to hear from anyone who attended the downtown aldermanic forum held by FOD a few nights ago, in relation to prospects for some important new high-rises.....was anything substantial stated by Fioretti and/or Reilly, or was it all a bunch of previously stated info/opinions and/or fluff??

In other words, "NIMBY ASS-KISSING". I figured as much. I hope these 2 quickly figure out that their jobs are not to be glorified poll-takers. We need vision, leadership, decisiveness out of them - if I wanted to live and work in a downtown where every project was endlessly debated over dozens of meetings, with every resident's (NIMBY's) voice heard again and again, I would have chose a progress-challenged, futurephobic city such as Boston, San Francisco or New York to live in. i hate to say it but driving past MoMo today i did not see one bit of difference in the facade of this building. Are they or did they already change this glass to newer or clearer glass? This building could be so cool with the right colored glass, but whats there is really having an undesirable look and feel! too bad!

It's good to see work progressing, but it saddens me to know that what was already a wonderful prewar landscape is totally being annihilated for a highrise, a sterile plaza, and a so-far undeveloped yucky parking lot (whose existence at all still perplexes me--WHY was this allowed to happen?)

I think it's the other way around. This design borrows so much from Ralph Johnson -- the window treatment at the base is from The Contemporaine, the long exposed columns and the overhang come from Skybridge, and the curve itself reminds me of The Clare more than any other curved building. They aren't the only ones borrowing from RJ these days, either.

Steely told me today that Sherman Plaza in Evanston is complete now. They've finally installed the windows on the upper floors.

No doubt. It borrows from Johnson, and not very well I might add. IMO Hirsch does some truly awful work....

Thanks Dan. I've had my camera almost six months now. I'm starting to feel more comfortable with it. I hope everyone doesn't mind me posting all this pictures. I've been rather hyperactive lately with the good weather and all the construction progress. This is a special era for skyscraper enthusiasts. What a great time to break in my first digital camera.
