Hello all. I must admit I haven't perused this thread as I did with the Spire, but I am anticipating this building almost as much and hope to be a regular reader from now on.

Will Aqua or its podium have a basement?

I guess what I am getting at is there any major excavation to be done on the site, or will it just go up from these pillars that are coming up now?

No, it'll just go straight up. The basement will actually be ABOVE ground level, in the podium. The mechanical functions of the basement will be mixed with ballroom and convention space for the hotel, as well as substantial parking. The park side of the podium will be hidden with townhomes, avoiding a blank wall.

There will be a small bit of excavation (about 7 feet deep) directly under the tower portion for the mat foundation. Other than that, nothing.

Happy 4th, y'all............Sometime ago I saw a reference on here to one of the real estate sales organizations that put up a running list of all the still available units at Aqua.......now I can't seem to find it in the thread. Can anyone help me with the name of that outfit......it isn't the Aqua sales office or Magellan if I'm remembering correctly.......Thanks!

I just got back from Chicago. (I really didn't want to leave.)

My hotel was on the north side of the construction site, so I went a little crazy with the pics. Taken July 2nd-3rd.

Where exactly is this project and this park? I don't know guys, from the looks of every photo I am seeing this park is surrounded by giant blank walls that don't look to friendly for such a public space. Whats the deal with these walls in the other buildings? Are other buildings supposed to be built next to them and touch and cover the unsightliness?

I'm sorry but from what I can tell this area looks kind of bland. Please tell me I just have it all wrong, because I love Chicago...

^ The blank walls you are seeing will be covered by other buildings - townhouses, a market, a school, some other towers, etc. Don't worry - blank walls in this part of town have a limited number of days left to live.

Yeah. Look at the size of the caisson compared to the man inside the ring of rebar. The thing has to be 2 1/2 meters in diameter, and the rebar is as big as the workers arm. This podium site is several hundred feet wide.

^ Yeah, I was just going to comment on the amazing girth of that threaded bar. I was looking at it in person, but not until your shot did I realize how massive it really is.

rastapunk8, no time table has been set (to my knowledge) for full build-out. The next tower in this development is going to take at least until 2010 to build, and they still have several sites left after that, so it could be a while. However, the townhomes and the market will be completed much sooner than that, so your concern about the park will be addressed.

Aaron38 what are the red lines in your photos ? they look to have been added after the picture was taken.

Thanks to all for the fantastic photos, I was just across the street 2 nights ago at the fireworks and didn't even notice this.

With no basement the main caissons still go down to LimeStone - right ?

I did zero manipulation to my photos. I think the lines just look weird cause those shots were taken at dusk, and in the low light the red color popped out more.

But the red lines are in Djvandrake's pictures as well. As for purpose I don't know, but they seem to be excavating inside the lines.
