These numbers are for Miami-Dade County rather than just the City of Miami so they include Miami Beach & Sunny Isles Beach which also contain 500+ foot buildings:

500+ footers
Completed: 10
Under Construction: 21

*2 U/C buildings just miss the 500 foot cut as Paramount Bay is to be 497 feet and Avenue 495 feet.

Dave8721 has renderings and stats of everything on the first page of this thread. His stats are more recent and more accurate than Emporis. I can tell just by looking at the way things are shaping up. At least 2 of the 500+ footers listed on Emporis are not going to be over 500 feet tall and seem to be topping off right at where Dave has them listed. It is still a pretty impressive list though with more 500+ footers scheduled to start later in the year. I wish they would put a pyramid on top of Avenue to make it over 500 feet tall. The way the renderings looked, for a while, I thought it did have one

Miami-Dade County is in the process of raising the height limit of a good chunk of downtown to 1010 feet (above sea level) for highrise buildings:

On page 15 of the document below you'll find this tidbit:
HSA or High structure set-aside district. A "high structure set-aside district" is established which identifies an area where tall buildings and other structures may be permitted with limited impact on the capacity and operation of Miami International Airport....This district shall be known as the 1010-foot AMSL boundary district. It shall have a maximum allowable height of 1010 feet AMSL."

In another peice of news as reported by Mileageman @ssc Related is launching Loft 4 (this one to be 2 blocks south and 1 block west of the current Loft buildings):

That would include everything from the Empire World site to the Four Seasons, which means the Four Seasons could have been built to its original 900+ specification. This also would mean we could have a 1000 footer anywhere on Brickell Avenue north of the Four Seasons. Being east of S. Miami Avenue, one of the Brickell Citicentre towers could even be built over 1000 feet, as well as the Flatiron building, according to the 1010-foot AMSL boundary district map. We won't have the tallest building in the U.S. outside of New York and Chicago, but we will have the 3rd biggest skyline nonetheless. Maybe things will loosen up more toward the Miami River to go higher than 1,010 feet.

correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just the county setting this area aside. Wouldn't we need approval from the aviation authority and the FAA. Has a deal already been struck or is this just wishful thinking?

Further down in the document it states that the area was worked out by the Miami-Dade Avaition Dept and the FAA and the City of Miami.

lol VA.....jamesgood72 is the one who flies his model airplane to take these shots from Bicentennial Park which is across the street from these projects. He has flown over 500+ feet with his plane!

samoen313 nothing is going up between 900 Biscayne & 10 Museum Park...that's a BP gas station & a pawn shop on the top corner. Neither of them will sell their properties!

900 Biscayne is now taller than Marina Blue (615 feet) :

Those are some good pics. Yeah i was always curious what would become of that BP gas station between those 2 towers. Myabe one day they will be bought out, and something kewl could be built...
