I think if Delta was to add any service to southeast Asia it would be to Malaysia when MAS joins Skyteam(pending Air Frances OK). Singapore is a massive star alliance hub so I sont thinbk Delta would fly there until it links with Mas first. On these ultra long hauls Delta might add a very small first class cabin that would be compareable to a Cathay or Singapore. I think in 08 when the new lie flat option is introduced, and more ultra long routes are announced they would add slew of amenities.

I hadn't heard that MAS was planning on joining SkyTeam--if true, that's very exciting and plugs a big gap in SE Asia with a quality company. I would be amazed, however, if Delta would add a first class cabin. I think if you've got a comfortable-enough business class (and BE will certainly be that with the lie-flat beds), you don't really get much extra bang by aiming at the ultra-high end customer.
If MAS joins SkyTeam, that's a reason to fly to KL, but if they don't, I definitely think there's enough O&D to support a direct ATL-SIN flight.

I like Singapore too, but it gets a little Disney-like after awhile: too clean, too upscale. I've spent several months there on and off, and I do love going back for short trips. I don't know if I could live there long term...

The lack of direct connections to Asia has always been a big disappointment to me as I have to travel to SIN fairly regularly. It would be great if DL went full luxury on that rout the was Singapore Airlines does with their non-stop LAX/JFK-SIN routes, but that's probably a little too much to ask of a US-based airline

An insider recently informed me that Singapore is actually adding another US destination for a nonstop to SIN, but it is not ATL, but ORD. It makes sense considering *A.

i love the old atlanta terminal. they should bring back some of the vintage/old styles of the 60's and 70's. hartsfield could use some wild architecture (but not too wild). besides, why not bring density to the area with a couple of parks and hotels near the present terminal to the bare areas and open parking lots (ever heard of parking decks?).

I understand that...when I was working there (briefly) my local friends took me to the attractions, which pretty much consisted of Sentosa Island ( ), the night zoo ( ) Boat Quay and a trip down Orchard Road. For a less "Disney" view of the city I'd recommend Little India and Chinatown...or what's left of it. But I still love the place because of the liveability factors...great public transit, safety, GREAT FOOD, proximity to Indonesia/Malaysia, English is nearly universally spoken, and the fact that I have some great friends there. I'd also consider living in HK, but it's almost too dense for me...though there's certainly more to do.

Since this is an airport thread, I'll also say that Hartsfield would do well to emulate the airports in either S'pore or HK, they are both top notch.

I'm a 747 fan and was wondering if ATL sees any of these big birds. An initial search couldn't find any. I was really surprised since ORD, which is comparable, has many on, of course UA, but also British Airways, KLM, Air India, and Air Japan.

Cathay Pacific flt 91 just left a few hours ago bound for Hong Kong, it's a 747-400. Korean Air and Air France
also fly into Hartsfield with 747's. Polar, Atlas, China Air doing the cargo trips with 747s. SAA & JAL served
ATL with 747's, SAA with nonstops to Africa.

The Cathy flight is Cathy Pacific Cargo, its a 747-400 freighter, which flies to Anchorage and then on to Hong Kong. Also Cargolux flies a 747, Polar Air Cargo, China Airlines, Southern Air, JAL Cargo, Air Atlanta, Air France Cargo, Atlas Air,

Air France mostly serves with the 777, but occasionally with the 747.

I miss the JAL 747s for sure. I also miss the SAA 747s, and also the SAA A340-600s...man those things were huge. Longest airliner in service. It used up ALL of the south runways when taking off...

ATL used to get a Swissair 747-300 back in the day as well as from Sabena, and I am pretty sure we've had 747s from KLM before. You'll see the occasional one from British Airways, Air France, maybe even Luftansa, and of course the cargo flights.

The only regularly scheduled passenger 747-400 that i know of is Korean Air

Thanks for the information. I'll try to check out the two daily passenger service flights on Korean and Air France.

Why did JAL and SAA pull out of Atlanta? It's refreshing to see anything besides DAL on occasion.

i believe SAA pulled out because they switched their service to IAD Washington Dulles instead. JAL probably pulled out because of poor loads due to 9/11, but that's just my guess. Or maybe competition from DL? I'm not sure

Hartsfield-Jackson ranks high in customer satisfaction

The world's busiest airport has placed third in overall customer satisfaction among large airports, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 North America Airport Satisfaction Study released Tuesday.

The seventh annual report ranked Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport behind Dallas/Fort Worth International and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County. Atlanta's airport scored a 701 out of 1,000, beating the large airport segment average of 689.

The report also noted Hartsfield-Jackson "demonstrates considerable improvement in check-in/baggage check, airport accessibility and security check."

The study found wait times were a key determinant of airport customer satisfaction. In particular, satisfaction with security check and baggage claim are strongly impacted by timeliness, with passengers tolerating wait times up to 17 minutes before satisfaction drops to below-average levels. And for every five minutes of wait time in a security screening line, satisfaction drops by an average of 21 index points. For baggage claim, the decrease is about 12 index points after every five-minute interval.

"While some waiting is unavoidable in airport travel, several airports have employed innovative methods to reduce wait times and manage customer expectations," said Jim Gaz, senior director of travel and entertainment at J.D. Power and Associates. "For example, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International manages customer expectations by giving passengers the opportunity to review wait times on its Web site and to sign up for electronic updates. These efforts go a long way in enhancing the experience and changing attitudes of customers who generally find air travel inconvenient and stressful."

I love the fact that Delta is so incredibly comprehensive in service, but I miss more international airlines present at ATL. And frankly, the service and experience is always better.

I wish there were more international airlines present at ATL as well. I fly primarily out of Dulles, Reagan and BWI now. Dulles has plenty of international airlines, so that's nice to see. But the fact remains, ATL is what it is, and its international presence will be mainly Delta for a long time. But the city is growing as we all know, and so is the airport. I think in the next 10 years we'll see maybe a few more large international airlines enter the ATL market

I think Air France is usuing the 777-200er and the 300er(which was the longest passenger jet briefly till the debut of the A346). I doubt we will see much 747 service outside of cargo unless its a substitution if a 777/a340 goes tech. Of course I can dream that Delta orders the 747-8I. That would be fantastic.
