NEW YORK: 1515 Broadway; another makeover?

Another potential remake in the making?

http://www.secinfo.com/d11MXs.v2d8j.d.htm

And 100 Park Avenue, the trend continues...

Hell freakin no!!!!!!! The verizon was a tough one to get over, but refacading this. 1515 Broadway aka 1 Astor Plaza, is a NYC classic skyscraper and a key representation of the 1970's skyscraper era for NYC. They are destroying the mix of buildings from different eras. 100 park avenue I can live with, but stripping the Astor, its a downright boulshit!

Oh hell no. One Astor Plaza is a classic, yet 100 Park Avenue may be even more important since it is the city's first modern highrise of the postwar era, one that set the trend for, in one way or another, all buildings in the city that followed. This is almost as ridiculous as the 60's stripping of ornaments off traditional skyscrapers.

Astor Plaza's redo actually looks alright, though the original is quintessential Times Square, and it I hope it doesn't actually happen. And 100 Park...wtf!? Shreve Lamb and Harmon's classic postwar skyscraper is gonna get covered up with forgettable glass cladding? Christ, to think the absolute rape of lollipop was just the beginning.

Not cool.

I was actually happy about the Verizon refacade, because I thought it was an immensly retarded building; but this is getting out of hand.

You would think they would have learned by now not to mess with stuff like that. Much like the 60s we seem to be going through a re-blandification of everything from the past, but (of course) this time it's okay. I'm hoping these are just mediocre dreams from someone with too much time on their hands.

They cant redo the Viacom Building, its a classic, for its Prominent Fins, the Tower is easily reconized from a far distance.

New York City is really beginning to suck. With the death of the Twin Towers, Reclad of all the Classic 60's - 70's buildings (Verison, Lolipop) , remodel of the Classic 1 Times Square's famous billboards, closing off the Statue of Liberty, I cant say New York is changing for the best.

These plans better not go through.

The way things are going, I wouldnt be suprised if the Emprire State Building would have a new skin by 2100.

The Empire State Building is landmarked, so that wont happen. Unfortuantely these buildings are not.

Either of these buildings getting these new style facades would be absolutely terrible. I see no reason to really do it either. 1515 Broadway is one of my favorite NY buildings that is not art-deco.

Not much about 1515 Broadway, but 100 Park is moving forward:
http://www.slgreen.com/property.php?id=1

100 Park Avenue is currently undergoing a $70 million capital improvement plan which will include:

-New two-story atrium lobby.

-New elevator cabs with glass and stone accents.

-New insulated windows.

-New HVAC systems providing tenant-controlled temperature and year-round availability.

-8 watts per square foot of electric capacity.

-New emergency generator providing 100% back up to critical life-safety systems.

-New state-of-the-art security system.

Am I the only person getting bored with "glass curtains" on the tops of all of these buildings?

I LOVE the spikes of 1 Astor Place. or 1515 broadway. Since I was little. Its such a great tower, truly iconic. Easy to recognize from downtown or Jersey, this cannot happen.

I have never been a big fan of 1515 Broadway, but why is 100 Park Avenue getting a new facade? This has truly gone out of control.

new york is homogenizing itself, not good. part of what makes new york...new york is the eclecticism of the eras of architecture.
