The status of the project is that it was just approved by the plan commission 3 days ago. It wsn't mentioned when they would start marketing. I did ean to ask them why the 20 story building 50' north of the new project was left out of the rendering. I consider that false advertisement.

Terrazio - South Loop?

I noticed an ad in the CT real estate setion for "a new approach" in the South Loop for Terrazio. The website give doesn't give up any real info expect a registration form. Anyone know some details on this project?

I don't think so. Anyone interested in buying would certainly familiarize him or herself with the area beforehand. Also, the image doesn't attempt to show the neighborhood or the surrounding buildings, but a working rendering of the new development. In any case, not a bad project for a part of the city in bad need of new construction.

I've been lurking around here since version 3, but I've not yet posted.

The last of Stateway Gardens is coming down. There were once eight of these from 35th to Pershing (39th). This building is less than fifty years old...strange to watch it fall, especially with a few towers just as ugly rising in the city. Sucks to be an icon of poverty, I guess.

Great pictures.

Which buildings going up now are just as ugly as stateway gardens? I can't think of any off the top of my head. The mere size of those windows makes me cringe.

this is off topic, but i need input from all the regular readers of this and other chicago threads:

there has been talk of some potential strucutral changes to the way chicago projects would be organized in this forum. essentially what is being proposed is the creation of a chicago-centric sub-forum within the midwest forum that would be a place to discuss all things chicago. all highrise projects under 700' could have their own individual project threads in that forum. the regular over 700' threads would remain where they are in the global forum and this compilation thread would remain here in the city compilations forum. and no duplication of threads would be allowed, meaning that if a given topic/project is being discussed at the global level, then it wouldn't be discussed in the chicago-centric sub-forum.

so what do you think? thumbs up, thumbs down? would this be a useful tool, or just make discussion more scattered and confusing? the more input i get, the better.

Um, well, I think if we did it like at SSC where there's a seperate subsection within this new Chicago section for the skyscrapers, then it'd be ok. Otherwise, we'll have like opinion-y type things mixed in with the construction status of buildings and it'll get messy.

I personally think it's just fine the way it is.

This is my routine...

First: check boom rundown
Second: check proposals
Third: check construction news/photos
Fourth: check general developments
Fifth: head to Transportation for anything interesting plus Chicago Transit Developments

I rarely if ever go to the Midwest forum, and to me that's just one extra unnecessary drag and click when I can just get what I'm looking for in a consolidated manner.

Just my opinion.

^^ Agreed, if it ain't broke don't fix it - I'm not really too keen on doing it the way Steely proposes, akin to what is on SSC, which I never really liked anyway. Best to just leave it the way it is.

I agree with Busy Bee and I follow pretty much the same pattern. This is the finest thresd on the net so, if it isn't broke don't fix it. It also seems that this new subforum in the midwest section would dilute the boom run down (if the no overlap of topics is strictly enforced) and be too scattered with too many threads to open.

keep in mind, i'm not the one proposing this, it's coming from higher up, and i'm not neccessarily in favor oif it, i'm mjust relaying the info. i want to get the opinions of as many chicago regulars as possible before i form my own opinion. whatever we decide as a group will be what happens.

Haha, me too minus your fifth step. I guess I would like to see some individual threads for smallers buildings, as long as the other things stay the way they are.

Awful idea. I hate the scattered nature of SSC. Most buildings in the boom do not see enough talk to even keep the threads alive, causing lost time searching for them in the back pages. Keep it the way it is. Remind the other moderators that the Boom Rundown you created Steely has set the standard here, we should do nothing of the sort to scatter it into the midwest forum, as with the huge number of projects it would be just a waste of bandwith.

Skyscrapercity has a Chicago subforum. its great because threads on the Olympics, the economy, transportation, development, and buildings are all in one place and discussions are more focused because people post them in appropriate threads.

Hell, if Chicago deserves its own subforum (whcih it certainly does due to all the fantastic peeps here) I'd just put all the Chicago threads in one place and not worry about 700+ers in the main discussion area. Keeps confusion down.

Great idea though

I know most other people disagree with me, but whatever. Honestly, going through the whole system here can get clunky. Its fine either way.

Personally I don't think the shorter towers have the discussion trafic to justify their own threads. Even the Mandarin and Legacy threads have had to be bumped just to keep them from purging. Weeks could go by for an individual building with nothing to report.

The main pro would be to have sub 700' threads to consolidate their info for easier archive searching. But the con is that instead of reading one boom rundown thread, we're reading a dozen threads, and that just gets tedious.

My vote is to keep as much information in the boom rundown as possible, keep the sub 700'ers here. When one of us goes on a big photoshoot walk, this is the place to put the 50 pic post. So I say keep the status quo.

Edit: I agree with Alliance on one point. If ALL Chicago threads were in one bucket it would be a plus. But that's not the proposal up for a vote, and things are scattered enough as is.
I still would say no though on sub-700' threads.

I vote to keep it the way it is. SSP is far cleaner and better organized than the SSC chicago sub-forum. Between the boom rundown, the general developments, and the city discussions forum for a few special topics such as the olympics, I think we have ample categories to fit people's need for discussion. Most sub-700 structures only get mentioned once a month anyway. Besides, you don't want to be cleaning up after our mess on even more threads than you do now, do you Steely?

Thumbs down

No change, keep it the way it is, I enjoy going on the front page of the rundown and scrolling through our glorious boom...

Also, I think, though it would be easier to find a particular building, the traffic on any one building would not be enough to justify their own thread...
