The Olympic Flame: Where?

One of the most iconic images from any Olymics Games is the Olympic flame. And so the question needs to be asked: Where should the Games organizers place the flame during the 2010 Games?

The IOC requires the Olympic flame be visible to the spectators of the Opening Ceremony, therefore, the flame will be located inside the dome. A secondary flame can always be located at one of the locations you just mentioned.

A flame for the Whistler Celebration Plaza, location of the Whistler Olympic medal ceremonies, Paralympic medal ceremonies, and Paralympic Closing Ceremony, has already been confirmed.

during the Calgary games in 88, we had the flame atop the Calgary Tower (ironically, the Olympic torches were styled similarly to the tower). Whats that building in Vancouver with the observation thing on top, Harbour Centre or something? why not fit it with a flame bowl there and have the flame on top?

Interesting, Distill3d. That's why the flame might find its best home atop Greater Vancouver's highest "tower" (or one of its highest) -- Grouse Mountain.

I think they should setup a cauldron in the middle of False Creek. That way it could be seen from all surrounding areas including around BC Place and the Athlete's Village. It would look nice with Science World as a backdrop as well. Somewhere around where this boat is turning perhaps...

The thing is, that has been done....by Calgary. We want to keep it original.

Would be cool if we could have a big flame atop Grouse Mountain for all the Lower Mainland to see (hehe, reminds me of Lord of the Rings). VANOC is also planning to erect massive Olympic rings along the mountainside of Grouse as well as Olympic rings onto False Creek.

Haven't you guys seen this video before?

At about 1:40 it shows BC Place completely ringed with flames. I think this is already the official plan.

Still, it's a huge risk with 55,000 spectators inside, 3,000 of the world's best in winter sports, 10,000 performers, 2,000 volunteers, 2,000 media personnel, and IOC delegates, our politicians, world dignitaries, and a world audience of 3 billion.

a flame around the BC place would be easy to control - first sign of anything bad and the gas can be cut off

i thought they would have it at the medal podium wherever that is going

If the Olympic flame goes out during the Olympics (before the Closing), how does that make us look?
