You can really get a good sense of the boom from Navy Pier—the stairs to the Ferris wheel are a good lookout. LSE looks sort of awkward right now, like a shifty adolescent, but I think Aqua will be its coming of age, at least aesthetically. It will be something to marvel at while watching a free show a MP. Whether the neighborhood integrates into the urban fabric ... I'm not placing any bets.

A fun contradiction to consider is the close proximity of MP, which has been lauded as the most democratic public entertainment space in the country, to LSE, a community of ivory towers for young urban professionals and retiring Boomers. Even if LSE as an illusory mini-city, fraught with SUVs and white-picket-fence balconies, its provocative dialogue with MP is what a real city is all about.

Incidentally, from NP, Trump is also starting to make some noise.

I came in here to post that 111 W Illinois is drilling caissons, but then I did some research and found that it's no longer 12 floors and thus not fit for this discussion. But then I noticed that we need to get on to the 2nd page and decided maybe I would post it anyway.

Hell yeah. Once Aqua gets going, and cross your fingers on that other big project, that already much-changed area will look totally different, and considerably taller.

Whether the neighborhood integrates into the urban fabric ... I'm not placing any bets.

No disrespect to those other threads, but IMO this is probably the most complete, organized, and ahem, coolest city compilation thread on the board. Course Im biased, so they shouldn't take offense too much. Great job by Steely, the guys at emporis, the photographers, newshounds, and all the other contributors who make this such a great thread. Thanks for continuing to keep all us regular joes updated, much appreciated.

All right, that Evanston rumor turns out to be Fountain Square. The corner building will be demolished and turned into a public plaza, which disappoints me because I think it is under-appreciated. Very Adolph Loos. The new building will be trapezoidal in shape to reflect the site geometry. Drawings might be seen as soon as tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the pandemonious mystery tower! That's rediculous that we could have another three supertalls (mystery tower, possilbe LSE, and Possible Rosevelt and Michigan) announced within this next quarter in addition to the three (WV, Trump, CS) that we already know of.

Seriously though, Pandemonious, any news on this one? Can you at least hint as to when it will be announced, or give us a half of the city that it will be in? North or South of Randolf or something?

I personally hope its one of those fugly parking lots north of the river in streeterville, hopefully the one next to NBC tower... That would be sweet!

True, although that building's been butchered a lot over the years. It lost a floor or two on top, and the windows were widened vertically in a postmodern renovation. If the rendering of the planned tower looks good, this'll be extremely exciting.

Pandemonius, can you confirm that your secret is NOT at Lakeshore East or Central Station or any of the guesses people have been making? No pressure though... if you wish to be silent I will understand. I know of three or four 1700-footers I'm keeping secret too (just kidding).

I don't necessarily disagree, but technically Fox Lake and the Savanna Grand is not in the Chicago Urbanized Area, but in the Round Lake Beach-McHenry-Grayslake, IL-WI Urbanized Area (you can all chuckle). The rural gaps between RLB-M-G & Chicago are only a little smaller than the rural gaps between MC & Chicago, at least in 2000.

Steely, for what it's worth regarding the Michigan City proposal, I work in downtown Chicago and a co-worker commutes every day from Michigan City on the South Shore....i.e. it actually is a commuter suburb with direct ties to the city, and of course the casino will heavily target Chicagoans.

(another pickard design) I found it interesting that this parcel is actually part of the Lasalle street TIF district. I think could almost guarentee we see something pretty shnazzy here soon.

I am really hoping Hines can land an anchor tenant for this one soon. Can't wait to see the design - this building will have phenomenal views. Do I hear 800'+??
