That's not the actual project, thats a dream proposal for creating a giagantic mausoleum in the middle of the city I believe. Interesting idea, but would kinda creep me out having so many dead people in one spot stacked like that.

Its not serious, is it? Sorry if thats a dumb question. I guess you could say I'm in shock, and if it is serious, that person needs to be tied to cannonball and shot into Lake Michigan.

Read it closely, this is pure tongue and cheek I think.

But it is almost too realistic and not bombastic enough, like the Onion pieces, not to at least wonder.

Ok I have solved it for everyone. It is pure sarcasm, nothing more. Go along with the joke for the writer is probably one of us.

Somewhat of a high-rise (I'm pretty sure it's over 12 floors), so yes this is the right place to discuss this, you were not off topic.

I saw the developer's plans recently for this (a month or two ago). The existing (old) post office is actually multiple buildings conjoined. On MOST floors the floor plates do not actually match. The developers intend to "cut" (for lack of a better term) the building up into several small mid-rise buildings with a very nice rooftop garden.... I won't be more specific than that because it's not my place to say more, but in general think of a much older, colder, grittier version of The Metropolis (Midtown Atlanta). It honestly could end up being a VERY nice re-development, and even with the Union Station re-development a few blocks away both of these will have to be "inward focusing" developments because the surrounding elements are simply unattractive.... and I suppose that's perfectly okay if you're talking about living in a mid-rise...that's on top of a freeway...that's on top of railroad tracks.... that are on top of a subway....

Sorta like this? It was published in a issue of Crain's about 3 years ago.

I don't think this will be bad at all if the city takes steps to make the intersection at Canal and Van Buren much more pedestrian friendly. With residents in the post office, they pretty much have to. The strip parking lot on the west side of the post office can be easily converted into a pedestrian promenade, with an underpass or overpass to cross 290.

Just wondering if anyone stopped by the Plan Commission meeting today. If so, was Millennium Park Plaza approved? (if I'm remembering correctly, I think this was the only development on today's agenda that captured my interest)

i did not attend the meeting, but i'd be SHOCKED if millennium park plaza didn't get approved. i remember when the developemnt team presented at GPAC, you could tell they were expecting some hostility and they seemed to be pleasently surprised at all the positive feedback they were getting from the neighborhood people who attended. this one really didn't seem to stir up a whole lot of NIMBY aggression (probably because it's not going to block the view of anyone's million dollar condo).

Yes it was. Lucien LaGrange's Uptown project (with the trapazoid windows) was also approved today.
