Would someone please enlighten me as to where the C Line will be single tracked? I know, or at least I think I know that the section from YVR 2 to the airport will be single tracked. I was also under the impression that the line would be single tracked down No. 3 Road.

Just south of Lansdowne Station as well as a few hundred metres west of Sea Island Centre Station.

^ I just hope the single-tracked segment doesn't start too close to Lansdowne Station, because we might not be able to increase frequency in the future if needed because of this. Last time I've heard/remember is that this section starts at around the Richport Mall at Ackroyd or smth, am I wrong?

^ single tracking starts 650 metres before YVR Airport Station. it's around the same, or less, for the Richmond section.

Well, any increased frequency in Vancouver, if limited by Richmond, would probably be short-trained at Bridgeport.

Vancouver 98 B-Line bus info signs 'duds'
Last Updated: Thursday, March 8, 2007 | 4:13 PM PT
CBC News

TransLink admits the electronic information signs at stops along a major bus route between downtown Vancouver and Richmond don't work, can't be fixed and could soon be gone.

The digital signs along the 98 B-line between downtown Vancouver and Richmond are supposed to let people waiting at the bus stop know when the next bus will arrive.
The digital bus signs along the Vancouver-Richmond bus route don't work, TransLink officials admit.
(CBC)

The signs, which are linked to a GPS system on the buses, haven't been working for the past week, freezing up and requiring frequent reboots.

"The signs at the bus stops have been duds," said TransLink spokesman Ken Hardie, adding the company that installed the system said it cannot be fixed.

"This system unfortunately just has never worked properly. Siemens has basically thrown up its hands and say they can't make it work."

Hardie said the GPS part of the system is working, and will continue to be used to hold green lights if buses are running late.

Officials haven't decided whether to continue to reboot the signs, or turn them off altogether.

Translink has already spent $30 million for a new system to provide real-time estimates on other major bus routes throughout Greater Vancouver.

It's expected to be installed by August, and Hardie said he is confident the new system will work better than the old one.

I wonder if this new system will be implemented on the Main St. Bus Project.

^ That is very likely.

But what the hell, Seimens can just "throw up its hands" and say the system they sold to us doesn't work? It seems to me that they haven't met the goal of the contract, which I sure hope required the vendor to provide a system that works.

The new system is by Init - same supplier as York Region's VIVA.

^ well, you have to remember that the electronic information system is only for the 98 B-Line, a service which will not exist in three years. Perhaps the cost of fixing the problem is not worth three years.

I noticed today a development application at what's left of the strip mall at No. 3 and Cambie in Richmond. It's for the Aberdeen Mall extension from what I could tell (I was on a bus). I wasn't expecting to see the two integrated for a number of years, but perhaps It could happen as soon as 2009.

Also, for those who care, I saw another development application attached to the eyesore at the southeast corner of No. 3 and Westminster. Finally.

It is not for extension of Aberdeen Shopping Centre. It is for the commerical highrise, but we will see.

Station entrances of the U-Bahn. They look quite similar to the entrance designs of several Canada Line stations.

That's sounds promising (highrise meaning midrise in Richmond) - and more logical than an extension of the mall, given that the mall isn't fully leased (haven't been in there in a while though), and the existing layout won't easily accommodate wide connections to the mall.

Water problems cause partial shutdown of Broadway and Cambie
Sunday, March 11 - 04:56:47 PM
Jim Goddard

Vancouver (NEWS1130) - A sink hole opened up at the Canada Line construction site at Broadway and Cambie on Sunday morning due to heavy rains. People walking nearby noticed dirty water spraying up through cracks in the sidewalk and through out the Canada Line construction site.

The Vancouver fire department says that caused a 100-meter by 30-meter hole about seven meters deep. The burst sewer line sent a torrent of smelly water through the Best Thai restaurant.

Right now you still can't get through north or south bound on Cambie between Broadway and Tenth.

*******

Strange - looks like cars are moving through the area on the webcam:

One thing I love about Berlin's stations is that they're so shallow. A few stairs and you're at the station level. They also use a POP system, allow bikes and dogs on the train and run frequently.

I think some of the Canada Line stations would be similar. i.e. Oakridge - one flight down and that's platform level - but the other side of the tracks will be via an underpass.
A few stations in Toronto are like that too - Queen and Dundas come to mind.
