I don't believe the location is wolf Point. We were told that it was a surprise and something that we weren't expecting. Everyone is expecting Wolf Point.

There are so many other possibilities.... Franklin Point, China Town, places in River North or the South Loop; the parcelsouth of NBC Tower... locations are endless.

Someone mentioned Meas Development on the previous page, and this is also a possibility. When I went to the grand opening for the Legacy, one of the members of the development team mentioned that another building was in the works that would be taller than the Legacy and it wasn't being designed by SCB. There are so many possibilities on this one.

It could be Trump it could even be Shelbourne, after all, they did give a contribution to Heithcock's campaign.

I will start asking around.

Hotel expansion, 19 town houses up for 41st Ward zoning board vote

March 1, 2007
By ALAN SCHMIDT
Staff Writer

The 41st Ward Zoning Advisory Board is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a proposal to build 19 town houses on the site of Schiele Graphics, 5911 N. Northwest Highway, and a plan to expand the 122-room Wyndham Garden Hotel, 8201 W. Higgins Road.

...

A request that a proposed 17-story Element Hotel be knocked down to 15 stories, with a two-level, below ground parking garage was deemed as cost prohibitive. Wyndham O'Hare Vice President Anshoo Sethi said he was able to shave off 8 feet, bringing the building down to 172 feet, by reducing the overall height on some floors.

In addition to the Element Hotel, and eight-story addition to the Wyndham would also be constructed on the 2.8 acre site. Sethi said the complex would have a total of 586 rooms.

That's a very good question. I had been wondering the same thing and stopped by the sales center recently to see if I could learn anything new. The sales people are still saying groundbreaking in spring. I couldn't exactly discern what was going on with the status of the Plan Development - the developer previously looked like they were going to change things around by converting the existing loft building (which I believe is part of the Plan Development) to residential from previous plans of upgraded office space. From a previous visit to the sales center, I was also informed that the revised Plan Development would also allow for an extra floor of parking (I wasn't clear if they were talking about actually adding a floor to the high-rise) which I assumed for all these changes they would need to go back before the Plan Commission - however, that hasn't happened yet. So, I don't know if they actually have the necessary approvals (perhaps I was wrong and they would only actually need an administrative change from DPD) to realistically allow for a groundbreaking this spring....bottom line, with over 70% of units sold (or at least the advertisements claim), I would think they're largely wasting time by not moving forward with the tower asap...

I really hope they move forward with this one soon. I had also inquired recently (maybe a month ago) about how sales were going and was told by sales agents that 50%-60% were sold. I want this building to sell-out as soon as possible because Renaissant potentially has enough political issues to deal with regarding Park Michigan - they don't need the added economic pressures of competing against their own development ala Park 1000...

Yeah, you're right that they have claimed over and over they don't want to sell. That's partly why I gave some additional credibility to that rumor - the idea was that they were trying to do a partnership arrangement, similar to the Trump/Hollinger deal that started Trump Tower. It's always a good idea to partner with people who own the land outright and have deep pockets to boot.

Has anyone seen the new Goettsch Partners book available in the Archicenter book shop? If you flip through it, there is a design for a roughly 2000-foot observation tower (don't worry, very different from the Beitler monstrosity) not far from Soldier Field. I thought of trying to figure out how to get an image of it, but now I'm bringing it up because of this Pandemonious mystery building.

Pandemonious works in the Santa Fe building, right? Mere coincidence that that's where Goettsch Partners is located? Pandemonious, maybe it's time to break your silence for another hint?

Either way, if someone could get their hands on the picture it would be nice.

^ Do you mean the "Dragon Tower" parking of steroids they cooked up as a fantasy for Chinatown? It was slightly over 1000 feet.

SOM is in the Santa Fe building too, I believe, unless I've lost it.

I agree! (this applies to some of the younger members as well!) I really like the fact that this proposal is previously unannounced, because it just adds to the list of upcoming over 800' announcements (we already know about something big in the works at Lakeshore East and at Museum Park on Roosevelt (as well as maybe some others which I'm forgetting)...

New Children's Memorial in Streeterville - state to throw up roadblocks??

There's an article in this week's Crain's which brings to light an issue with potential repercussions on the big health care projects planned for the city, including the new high-rise Children's Memorial hospital planned for (I believe)Superior St. in Streeterville. It's regarding talk at the State house of a possible moratorium on new hospital projects. This of course would be a bad idea for any number of reasons. However, unlike what the misleading headline of the article suggests, the actual content of the article makes it fairly clear that an actual moratorium is far from certain - it's just an idea that is a part of the talks going on in the legislature...

^ Thanks for the tip. I checked out ask.com maps. On the plus side, they are more up to date than Google or Microsoft. However, they are much lower resolution.

They have one thing in common with their competion however; the address search feature is largely useless. It's off by a couple of hundred feet, just like Google.

I wish this could be fixed.

Demolition has begun at the 155 N. Wacker site. Work crews on Saturday were tearing into the rear of one of the mid-block buildings, dirrectly east of the yellow brick — box.

Wow - almost a month earlier than the Buck rep mentioned they would a few weeks ago. He also mentioned a July 1 groundbreaking, but perhaps this means it will also be earlier. As long as their anchor lease has been finalized, they need to have the building ready for occupancy by Summer 2009, so they do need to move...

A couple people already have mentioned it, but I noticed a few workers on the 235 West Van Buren site this morning, along with the equipment that has been on site for the past few days or so. I also noticed that the Chinese restaurant on the lot was chained up/closed down....I'm guessing that they may demolish the restaurant building in the near future?

Most geocoding is done with the Census Tiger data, and they're in the middle of a project to improve locational accuracy. The 2006 data has the improved accuracy for a number of counties in the US, but Cook is not one of them. I suppose it will take a while to get Cook done.
