A New Jersey developer is planning a 26-story condo tower in Hyde Park that would be designed by Chicago architect Jeanne Gang. ^ NIMBY opposition to this seems pretty strong. Check out the latest edition of the Hyde Park Herald, there is another letter against this thing (page 4) for the usual retarded reasons. Are there some Hyde Parkers out there? Some support is really needed or else the Alderman is going to cave in

The shadow reason is retarded. The argument against the number of parking lots is not....there are 314 parking lots for 142 units - that's more than even Doody wanted!

I say get rid of half the parking spots...which would make the NIMBY's and non-NIMBY's both happy....this would also probably reduce the height of the building from 26 floors to 22 or 23 floors....which the NIMBY's would see as a victory but would still allow for a building of good height in the area, and the same amount of density.

^ Well, that extra parking is there because the development replaces a parking lot that is being used by the residents of the building next door, thus these spots were incorporated into the development so as to not piss off its neighbor.

You know, that whole "entitlement to parking" thing

Yeah, there will be some South Siders who come out in support of this one.

Don't forget, Preckwinkle actually caused the other high-rise on 53rd to get taller rather than shorter due to her affordable housing demands. I think if they put a lot of affordable units in this thing, she'd push for it even at 30 stories.

I think you could be right...and if Trump is going to build another 1000 foot building, you gotta imagine that it would be in a very high-profile location...possibly Wolf Point, like a couple others have suggested?

I've mentioned this before, but I had a very reputable source mention over a year ago that there had been negotiations / discussions between Trump and the Kennedy family concerning Wolf Point.

Everyone keeps mentioning Wolf Point, but the last I heard the Kennedy's had no intention on selling, and if they had (a point that would have a developer and an architect design a building for the site), wouldn't it have been in the news?... that's got to be one the most expensive plots of land in the city.

I'm not sure what is going on with Silver Tower, but I think that a lot of buildings will start construction this spring. There are already 55 buildings U/C on the list...I wouldn't be surprised if the list goes well into the 60's by the middle of this year.
