Absolutely. It's damn near a kilometre across in many places (averages well over 500m for most of the cottage country, I'm sure), and with the dams it can get even wider. I forget the highway #, but there's an AMAZING bridge/causeway over the Winnipeg that seems to just go on forever. Haven't been by there in years.

By comparison, the Red is maybe 150-300 metres across.

You might be talking about the bridge leading into Pinawa. You'll be driving through the middle of the bush, and all of a sudden the river pops out. The bridge is fairly low, and you can see upstream and downstream quite a ways. Highway 211, I believe.

I think only the shoulder is gravel... Highway 6 is paved.

^ I think he was referring to the highway between Lynn Lake and Thompson. Part of that highway is paved and part is gravel.
