There was a shop in Shadyside, I think in Shadyside, that had the skinsuit from Silence of the Lambs on display. I think it was a leather working shop that helped make the suit for the movie.

Anyway, great pics.

Dysfunctional? The East Busway is very successful. I, along with most urbanists, would prefer a LRT... which would represent a permenant investment in mass transit infrastructure... but the East Busway works pretty well as it is now... and the Eastside retail development in East Liberty is being built along one of its major stops. The West Busway, however, is not successful due to intra-regional political conflict.

Also I had valentine's day dinner at the elbow room last night, it's always weird seeing these familiar places online...
Hey, small world! Make sure to stop me next time you see me walking around!

Thanks for the reminiscings. I never saw Ellsworth 15 years ago... but it's still pretty funky... especially compared to Walnut. It has a lot of independently-owned clothing boutiques.

nice pictures evergrey. i don't recall ever being in the burgh for a snowfall, but i'm certain it would be a blast. that civil union banner on the church was unexpected, too.
It's a fantastic city for sledding.

When I was apartment hunting... most 1BR's in those types of Shadyside apt. buildings were around 600-700 a month.

That is the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, completed in 1935 with donations from the Mellon family.

The one pointed out by RamsayHank. The rest of the churches are utter trash.

Walnut used to be more independent, but as it became a destination... higher rents... and hello chains... so Ellsworth became Walnut, but to a lesser extent.

Pittsburgh is an urban wonderland. I never get sick of it. It really looks nice in the snow too. I love these neighborhood tours. The only thing that really sucked is that the ice storm (freezing rain for 6 hours) caused the whole 25 mile long light rail and subway system to be shut down. It was hell for commuters. The ice buildup on the wires was amazing. Luckily ice storms aren't very frequent in Pittsburgh.
