On Feb. 15, Walsh Construction will start driving the caissons for the foundation and on Feb. 23, there will be an official groundbreaking for the site.
I'm really excited about this one. I love the metallic-clad facade. Too bad it's only 18 stories.
^ it was my understanding that the 345 N. wells project is a dead proposal. emporis has it listed as "never built". it was reported in this thread that it has been replaced by 161 west kinzie, a 32 story residential project designed by valerio dewalt train.

So today after school I decided to walk around in the sub-zero weather and take some pictures. I'll start with the Chicago Spire site; there's nothing too interesting going on except a frozen solid Chicago river!

That's all I took as far as the construction status of the BOOM. Next time I pass by some other sites with my camera, I'll be sure to take some more pictures. But for now a few more pictures that I just thought were cool...
The balcony configuration on the back side of the Chandler is awful. No rhythm or grace at all. Is that east corner really going to be partially left open like that?
340 OTP seems to really have nailed the problem of inserting balconies into a curtainwall building - no easy task, by any account. I'm waiting for the north side to be finished, but it looks like they've done a good job of masking / minimizing their impact, and integrating into the overall design. D+P (or Low-end-berg - who's the culprit?) should take a good look at it.
Okay, this update I KNOW is a current/upcoming project and not something that's catagorized as "never built" (sorry about that, got excited for nothing).
Anyway, there was a bulldozer and people gathered on the NE site of State and Lake (the Wit I believe). Not sure what they were doing and I didn't have time to ask since I had to get home to get my heater fixed.

Interesting, that is the site of the Wit. I guess I'll go over there in my 4 hours of downtime between getting off work and the meeting tonight.

^^^^I can see that site from my balcony. Unless they are on the FAR east side of the site, which for me is blocked by the UniTrin Bldg, I don't see anything or anyone over there. If they were demolishing that smaller building to the east, I wouldn't be able to see it from here though.
