I don't quite know where the station actually is, but I'm guessing it runs a bit south of there, and may even be a touch to the east.
Look closely at who the plans were drawn up for. Almost sickens me.

At this point, I need to reiterate my suggestion that the lands to the north of Jasper around 107th (the "behind the Boston Pizza" lands) make a much better location for an arena.

Ingress/egress. Check.
Proximity to services. Check.
Proximity to LRT. Check.

The more I look at the present designs for the Canada Post site, it seems like a veiled attempt to shoe-horn the arena into a certain location in a vain attempt to make an adjacent proposed development (that will remain un-named) somehow seem more viable.

And why is it that people continue to gloss over the fact that Cda Post has publicly stated it has no intentions of moving???

Because having it on Jasper with main floor retail that opens onto the street (thus street interaction) and near an existing station (corona) makes sence. However I wonder if that lot is large enough for the project if we are to assume they plan on building office there as well.

The lot is big enough (106-108th street) if you take out 107 street.

I still prefer the Canada Post location, as this is much closer to hotels and restaurants and the entertainment/arts district.

You should be able to put the arena within a full block without having to close any streets, yes?

Ah but those in the know are very aware that Canada Post has every intention of moving. As with our government, what they say and what they do are two different things!

I think 100 metres is too narrow for an arena.. street closing would be necessary.

Is 100m required? The Kasian plan shows a huge loading area to the east of the Cda Post site proposal that could be located in other ways and not be so intrusive.

Isn't Wpg's slightly smaller arena within a single block? What about other downtown arenas in the US?

No. If you overlay a typical arena over the site, it doesn't really fit. There may be some way to squeeze it on with programmatic gymnastics, but it would be extremely cramped. I'm not sure closing 107 street (a very bad idea, IMO) would help that much.

The post office site has better proportions. I agree it is clearly opportunist speculation on Qualico's part, but it remains the only comfortable (wide enough) location downtown. On other sites, street closure would be necessary. They may even need some of the stationlands site. As for Canada Post: Remeber this is a post-office; they don't have any intentions at all. They would move if asked. They are hardly using that building at all anymore, and could be leveraged out very easily. Also, the land behind Boston Pizza would cost a fortune, while the post Office site might be free.

You can find out about US arenas at findstadiums.com. They are larger than one of our blocks. Even the most constrained US arenas (like in Washington DC) would have trouble fitting.

But, on the whole, Canadians have smaller butts, don't they? Smaller seats = smaller footprint!
