No, you're not crazy. It's a very handsome building and probably one of the best left from the early 1950s in the Loop. The building across from the Sears Tower is being refaced now (probably a good thing), and the very cool Jewish Federation HQ is supposed to turn into that awful EIFS-covered hotel.

Architects of the General Growth building were Graham, Anderson, Probst and White.

I love to see the river canyon built up with buildings like 300 and potentially Wolf Point, but I don't think it all has to be 50+ stories.

No - I would like to see ANYTHING more than surface parking. The only good thing about surface parking is that it's hard to defend if somebody wants to develop it. Turn it into a park and watch the NIMBYs squeal when you want to build a tower there - no matter how good a site it is for a tower.

Once the Fulton-River District reaches a critical mass of density (I'll give it another 8 years tops) then you'll start to see some serious interest in Wolf Point.

Im lost. What building near the Sears Tower and what are the plans for it?

^ Sorry, this is getting really off-topic. I am referring to the Loebl, Schlossman and Bennett building to the west of the Sears Tower. It is being reclad in more modern materials as we speak, but thankfully they are keeping the form of the building, which was its strong point. I think people will actually appreciate it better now.

I'd be glad to keep discussing vanishing 1950s buildings and modern architecture in the general developments thread if anyone cares to.

LOL. Kirkland and Ellis actually has its own designated "300 North Lasalle Project" conference room set side. Whenever I pass by, I wonder what type of clandestine discussions are taking place. I find it impossible to wrap my brain around the logistics of our move.

Once an attorney reaches their billable hours requirement, they get 6 minutes to pack their office, 6 minutes to get to the new site, and 6 minutes to unpack. Seems pretty reasonable (for K&E).

I think the excavation will probably be pretty similar to WV, except they will be building back up with steel, not concrete.
