No, you're not crazy. It's a very handsome building and probably one of the best left from the early 1950s in the Loop. The building across from the Sears Tower is being refaced now (probably a good thing), and the very cool Jewish Federation HQ is supposed to turn into that awful EIFS-covered hotel.
Architects of the General Growth building were Graham, Anderson, Probst and White.
I love to see the river canyon built up with buildings like 300 and potentially Wolf Point, but I don't think it all has to be 50+ stories.
