Nice... without much ado they've poured the mat, some weeks ago, it seems. I also saw some recent pics on emporis... one of them shows some steel plates lying around, I think for attaching the steel structural beams to the concrete foundation. I thought it was pretty quick for that to come in...

When I was going over the river on the brown line yesterday I saw the progress at this site, and it looks like the river walk part is gonna be a lot smaller than it looks in the rendering. Am I right?

The steel plates lying aroung are for the earth retention system. They mount to the shearwall forms in the photo as a weld point for temporary crossbracing.
The entire site has to be excavated roughly 30' down to begin the rest of the foundation and structural steel. This will take quite some time.

The tentative plan is to pour the first level of the elevator core thursday.
Self-climbing core formwork will follow after some heavy equipment is set in the interior.

It sounds like you are working on 300 Lasalle or have some other inside info, that's a very welcome asset. You wouldn't know what the deal is with the crown would you? Supposedly there are two designs that we have seen, one with very prominent flying buttresses and the other with less prominent flying buttresses, you wouldn't happen to know about this would you?

The design is alright, nothing spectacular but not bad either, and it will be a nice extension of the skyline as well as of the Chicago River corridor.

Hopefully one day someone will buy and level the General Growth building that is located between Wacker Drive and the river. Narrow lot for a high rise, so someday we may see a unique design at that location.

I find it hard to believe anyone is going to construct a building at Wolf's Point. For one thing the whole parking structure was just redone three years ago, why did they waste all that money if they were looking to sell the land. Secondly, half of what could be constructed there would have a horrible view of the Apparel Center in all its concrete glory. And lastly I would have to believe they would have to build all the way to the edge of the river to make this project economically feasible. That doesn't sound very safe from a security or construction point of view.

Of course the same could be said about the General Growth property....

Some last minute changes delayed the wall pour until friday.

Regarding the buttress,
I do not have previous architectural versions, but the current one has 'clouds' in the area, noting a change.
Sadly, it appears to be less significant than the rendering on the first page of this thread.

As fate would have it, The same concrete and steel erection crews will be working on this project as were on One south Dearborn.
On that job, there was much trash-talking, on both sides, as to which side would be setting the pace.
By this i mean, the concrete core must remain ahead of the steel erection in order for the project to progress quickly. If the concrete took to long, the ironworkers would have to wait. If the steel erection takes too long, the core must wait. (I believe the city of chicago limit is 10 floors above working deck maximum)
I dont know if there are any construction photos of 1sd on here, but lets just say there was a clear winner in the race, and it was not the erection gang.

This project will have 2 cranes rather than one, and a core twice as large.
both these aspects will benefit the ironworkers, who will definetly be looking to save face.

Let the drama begin.

this will be very fun to watch. I see it from the green line and go by there all the time.

as for wolf point, the surface parking that's there I think is a space big enough for a building. One day it will go, with all that development around it in the river area.
one day in the future that's just going to be too valuable to leave as it is

I agree with you about the General Growth Building. I'd like to see it demolished also.

As for Wolf Point, you don't think anythink will happen because of the recently redone parking structure? It's just money dude!!! and there is a shitload of it out there. To be honesty, if anything were to ever happen there, I'd like to see the Aparel Mart torn down.

I happen to like the General Growth building, and I also happen to think that they should tear down the parking structure at Wolf Point and build a park, complete with a launch point for small boats and kayaks.

But I may just be crazy.

Try one-fourth, not one half. And you seem to be thinking that a Wolf Point tower would be the same height as the Apparel Mart. It wouldn't. It would probably be extremely tall, so only its parking base and a few floors would be facing the Apparel Mart.
